I totally agree with the "tactical" tag. I hate labeling items as tactical. IMO nothing is tactical unless you use it tactically...It's nothing more than a marketing tool. As far as the pen goes, to each his own, I prefer carrying my "defensive" pen at work cuz its comforting to have it in hand when working around people who, if given the chance, wouldn't give a second thought about bashing my head in...just sayin...

Anyone look into Tactical Pens?

I, too, agree with the "tactical" label. I don't (cannot) even call it a "tactical pen", it's simply a *quote quote* writing instrument. This pen is leaps and bounds more useful than a standard pen. While I've never used a Bic in a SD scenario (I'd hate to be left with only a Bic!), I have used a Kubotan that was almost identical to the pen pictured above. I got punched in the face and came out with the Kubotan, grabbed my "opponents" shirt and put the implement into the back of his ribcage several times with hammerfist strikes...the altercation ended right then and there, he didn't know what happened but he knew he was done.
I realize no two situations will ever be the same, but after seeing what a cheap piece of shaped aluminum can do and the power it can add to a strike; I'm a believer. It may not stop everyone everytime, but I'll take what I can get. I honestly don't think I'd count on a Bic to perform as well as the Kubotan/"Tactical" Pen. Also, it would only be used in a "you or me" situation, as we have other tools that can be called upon as well as a partner(s) to handle less emergent situations.

I carry a kubotan in my camera case when I travel and even on international flights all over the world and have never been asked about it anywhere. Self defense starts and really ends hand to hand when in a NPE. Anything that helps is a plus. A Bic pen is better than nothing but not by much.Wake Up...Grow Up...Show Up...Sit Up...Shut Up...Listen Up

As some of you know, I travel quite a bit for my work. Some really nice safe places and others where I have to have an armed guard. While I don't presently have a "tactical" pen, I do carry a pretty substantial weighted Pentel pen all of the time. The cap is fairly well pointed but not too pointed. Would like to carry a kubotan but some of the places that I go, these things are known to be a weapon, so I'd rather not have the hassle.
One thing that always gets me is when the TSA people ask me do I have a weapon or potential weapon. I just about always tell them that "I am a potential weapon" You should see the looks on their faces. On the internet, the number of posts do not correlate to actual knowledge.

FYI there's more than a stabber in most of them seatbelt cutting glass breaker (Accident victim trapped)Cutting edge (DNA catcher) and they inflict quite a bit od pain if you tap someone on the knuckle forehead elbow etc. Sharpies and bids shatter on impact... these are usually very heavy aluminum.
Trust me I'll take my Kahr first but don't always have it on me.My New Web Store!
