I've been fussin about getting a different 45 for carry. Bawanna said I need to carry Dad's Colt 1911 45 for awhile to make sure I was comfortable concealing a larger gun. I did and I am. Funny thing tho, since I can't find anything stating the width of my 1911 I measured. Did you know my 45ACP 1911 Colt Commander is THINNER than my PM9???? I measured a half dozen times refusing to believe that so I smirked and tried to force it into the PM9 holster. It was SLOPPY in that holster and my PM9 doesn't want to go in the Colt's holster. Is that weird or what?

My MK40 is like 1.0" or something.
It's like deck of cards thin.
My P220/45 is huge in comparison.
I actually like my G27 or P239 as a nice carry size.

So you made me measure my 1911 GI's slide. It's 23 mm or 29/32" wide. My CW9 is 22.5 mm or 28/32" wide.
Might have to breakout the good calipers! On the internet, the number of posts do not correlate to actual knowledge.
The notch is supposed to be there as well as the bulge at the front of the frame!

Next to Greg, I'm totally in awe of this man.Originally posted by crazymailman View PostThe genius of John Browning just keeps on amazing me.
Think of what he did, and how long he took to create working protoypes with not nearly remotely close to the tools and technology we have now days.
I've seen pictures of his work shop and it boggle my mind what he accomplished.
Pure absolute genius.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

Pure absolute genius who couldn't sell a gun, but launched so many other people into the history books for manufacturing his designs.
The engineer part of me is in awe and the salesman part of me feels pity he never reaped the rewards of his genius.sigpic

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

Actually I'm not sure that's exactly true. He sold a lot obviously to Winchester, and when they balked at buying a few designs he went across the pond and marketed with FN etc.
I really don't think he wanted to be encumbered with production, he wanted to design and collect royalties.
I could be totally wrong and you could be totally right, in fact it's most likely the case based on my past history but that's the way I see it.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

Yep, my CW45 won't fit into my 1911 leather holster. the 1911 design really has a slim profile.Originally posted by OldLincoln View PostI've been fussin about getting a different 45 for carry. compare the width of your Kahr trigger guard to that of your 1911. Been there, done that. I carry my CW9 and CM9 in a rather generic Don Hume leather IWB single clip holster (had it for a long time), and they both fit well as far as the frame goes. But try to force the Kahr into a Kydex holster made for the 1911 frame, and the trigger guard width just ain't gonna permit it to work. I've even considered doing a bit of trigger guard shaping on my Kahrs to make them fit my favorite 1911 holsters, but not gonna risk damaging the frames.________________________________________
