OL Your son is right. I never thought all that much of night sights, that is until I bought my PM9 that had them on there already. I carry all my guns at one time or another but the PM9 is my go to gun most of the time and is the only gun I carry at night because it is the only one with nights sights. Now I know more than likely SHTF situations that might happen are going to be point and shoot situations, at least for the first shot. As we all know that is not anything written in stone. The sights that came on the kahr show up quite well even in low light conditions. I'd have to agree with your son if your going to be carrying the gun at night put some NS on it. Sure makes a big difference with these old eyes of mine. The down side of carrying the PM9 is that if something should happen I'm more than likely going to be without it for a period of time. I understand they will more that likely test the gun to make sure it was the gun used in the shooting and hold onto it till the case goes to court and is over. There just trying to make sure they have there I's dotted and there T's crossed so the BG doesn't walk. Sucks I know but at least the BG is off the streets thanks to you and your gun.

Glad your friend is OK. The Taurus PT709 that he used, has a 1911 style safety, so I am assuming that he switched it off before quickly using it and that he trained well. Of course he could have just had been carrying it in the off position. Either way good outcome for your friend !!! God Bless !!!

Yup, Yup.Originally posted by Armybrat View PostAll the more reason to buy another gun.
two guns is a minimum.
I think you will lose your gun for an extended period of time in any state following a shooting.
I totally agree with "no threat stop shooting".
Particularly when the perp is fleeing.
I might have double tapped too, but who knows?
If one shot stops the attack then that's good enough for me.
Glad everyone is safe.
I think this stuff happens a lot more than we hear about.
Seems like you have to be part of a mass murder to get on the news these days.

Maybe they're afraid he might have to shoot another BG in self-defense again?Originally posted by BimmerBob View PostWhat on Earth do they need the gun for? I mean, I guess it just sits in an evidence room or something during the investigation, but to what end?

The main reason is that it will be evidence in court. But if the shooter isn't charged the gun should be returned immediately, which usually doesn't happen. Just another example of overgrown government walking all over our rights.Originally posted by BimmerBob View PostWhat on Earth do they need the gun for? Another thing I missed in the story. How in the heck can you rack the slide with one hand while pushing the barrel of a shotgun pointing at you with the other???!!!! Answer - you can't so why even draw.Originally posted by Krusty View PostYour friend did the right thing! Prime scenario example for having one in the spout! This scenario shows how screwed you are if not carrying ready to rock!I'm glad your friend is OK.
I always carry chambered so that's probably why it went passed me but this story ought to be a link for those who disagree."Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." - O. L.

Yeah, they supposedly just sit there but I wonder how many either disappear or are included in a evidence disposal and ground up as scrap. I doubt they even try to contact the owner as the evidence tag tracked back to the log likely just refers to a case number and the file is probably not accessible to them or there's too many to track down. It's a shame.Originally posted by JFootin View PostThe main reason is that it will be evidence in court. My son is still pushing me to get night sights saying bad things usually happen at night in large parking lots - "gulp!"
Although I have night sights on my CM9 and Glock 30, I would probably say that sights had zero to do with this case of SD. There is just no way to have time to properly aim using sights. More than likey, just getting the gun pointed in the right direction quickly is all you could most likely do.

There are lots of factors but the property bag and sheet would list the owner of the weapon and it's available to any authorized person in the dept.
In some cases such as this the BG's attorney can request a hold on the weapon pending future civil suits or that sort of thing. If there's any chance of a trial, the prosecutors usually won't release the gun. The want the gun in hand at trial, not a photo. I don't agree with that but they know how to play a jury or a judge.
Our dept MP5 was held up for 3 years in just such a case. The BG's attorney put a hold on it. They told me to forget about it, I'd never get it back, but I did. It was in a bad way, not cleaned, really nasty but I got it functional again.
No budget to buy another one. So sometimes even dept guns can get tied up in the system.
One thing I do agree with is when an officer is involved in a shooting his gun is taken but we give him another one just like it on the spot. One nice thing about Glocks, there's no real love, they all look alike so the officer isn't all broken up like when you take his Wilson or Ed Brown Special with Wooley Mammoth Bawanna grips on it. That would be sad.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

I think for some officers taking a special gun away from them it more traumatic than the events surrounding the incident. I know I'd be real broke up if they took my Cbob. It's the ones that couldn't easily and quickly be replaced that would tear a person up.
Or sentimental guns like Old Lincolns dads gun, that would be very sad.
But what's really sad is not carrying what you really like the best or handle most proficiently for fear you might have to use it, therefore relegating it to the safe. I've done that in the past but not anymore. I figure the odds are in my favor that I'll never need it but if I do I want my favorites with me.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

If the DA in my jurisdiction decides the shooting is proper then the weapon is mandated to be returned within 2 business days. Plaintiffs attornies have carped and moaned but once the DA determines the shooting is legal there is NO CIVIL LIABILITY to be concerned with so the schyster, low rent, bottom feeders aka attornies do not matter.Wake Up...Grow Up...Show Up...Sit Up...Shut Up...Listen Up
