Well some cucumbers get quite large, if size matters you may be doomed.

Geez, my wife used plant a small garden every year, and then maybe mess with it once a month. It was like a spring ritual, plants some tomatoes and whatever, and then let the weeds take over and forget to water it and maybe have some puny tomatoes or whatever. And it was "her" garden, and I was to let her take care of it. It was supposed to be relaxing and good for her, but I guess she never wanted to be relaxed or do something good for her. I would at least water it once in awhile and pull a few weeds, but not too much, since it was "hers". I have to laugh, this went on for years, same thing, same puny veggies. It's kind of comical that this went on so long.Tom

I've discovered that it's hard to improve on those little microwaveable packages of veggies from the freezer section of the grocery stores!
Then there are the varmints... 4-legged AND 2-legged, that will share your crops.

I must say, that my wife ALWAYS does what she says she is going to do, which is scary at some points. I will definitely help, if we get to that point. I really hope, that between the farmers market, and our plot(maybe) I can reap the rewards of some delicious organic veggies. It's also a monetary thing. I requested that she plant things that are the most expensive to purchase(the Virgo in me)so we can optimize our return. We'll still hit the farmers market every week. I really do suffer during the cold months, because to me, there is nothing like fresh organic veggies. Look what they did for Popeye........and that was out of the can.......hugk, hugk, hugk, hugk.

I have to admit next to my cantaloupes the zucchini doesn't appear to be quite as large.
(We are still talking fruits and vegetables, aren't we?)

[QUOTE=berettabone;300569]we are now the proud owners(renters) of a 20 ft. by 20 ft. garden plot, in a city park. Part of a college extension. [/QUOTE
Will the college overseeing this project turn the ground for all of the plots? If you're stuck doing it yourself, set the rototiller shallow and scrape off the sod first. Most perennial grasses will grow from root fragments, so it's actually better to remove as much as you can. Get some aged manure and rototill it into the remaining soil. More manure is better for a garden bed. Although weeding is a pain, weeds rob water and sun from your veggies. It's got to be done.

9 Deadly Words Used By A Woman .
1) Fine.
This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
2) Five Minutes.
If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour.
Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
3) Nothing.
This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with Nothing usually end in Fine.
4) Go Ahead.
This is a dare, not permission. Don't do it!
5) Loud Sigh.
This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men.
A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about Nothing.
(Refer back to #3 for the meaning of Nothing)
6) Okay (OK).
This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a man.
Okay (OK) means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
7) Thanks.
A woman is thanking you, do not question or faint. Just say You're Welcome.
(I want to add a clause here - This is true, unless she says "Thanks a lot" - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all).
DO NOT say "You're Welcome". That will bring on a "Whatever".
8) Whatever.
Is a woman's way of saying F- You.
9) Don't Worry About It, I've Got It.
Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself.
This will later result in a man asking, "What's wrong?"
For the woman's response, refer to #3.
You forgot "yes dear" now that's a reply
