  • Got the Clapp...............

I knew I shouldn't have joined this forum. I knew that nothing good could ever become from it. There were some discussions a while back, and some pictures posted(I won't mention any names) of some very nice looking revolvers. I blame them, and hold them personally responsible, for pushing me over the ledge. After I sold my last revolver, I have been missing owning a revolver. I've wanted an SP101 for quite some time now, mostly for the wife, but of course, I'll have to make sure it's safe. I purchased the Wiley Clapp model...............should have it next week sometime. A little trigger work, and it should be good to go. Have been watching that model online for a couple years, and they are becoming harder and harder to find. I think it's a very sexy looking thing, but built like a tank. Brass bead front sight, what's not to like???????????????? The wifey will likey, she's handled one before. Yeah, I know...........pics later............................................. ..

I had the clap once. Penicillin helped a lot. In the higher social circles they referrer to it as the applause. Are we still talking guns here?

Here's a temporary fix (my plain jane SP from 1993) until bb's proof shows up...

The downside is, I was going to try and consolidate my ammo/firearms to 2 different rounds...............................that's all shot to hell...............

I have the GP100 version of the Wiley Clapp edition, and it is one sweet, SWEET revolver. The trigger pull is amazing, right out of the box, and the Novak sights are great. I hope you like the SP101 version just as well. (If not, try to find a GP100 WC to trade it in on!)

I shouldn't have clicked on this thread. There's just something about the SP101 that looks "right" to me.

Oh yes....., the SP101 is a serious revolver. You will like that little beauty. Did not know that there was a WC version though....

I think I may have told this story before but will tell it again, If you heard before, sorry for the redundancy,

I owned a firearms business a while back. My wife who worked in the shop, needed a carry gun. We looked at every kind of gun you can imagine and absolutely nothing would float her boat. She finally said, "Let me look at your SP101". I said, "You won't like that gun it is too heavy". I showed her the gun and after handling it she said, "this is it! This feels like what a gun should feel like. I want this gun!" Being the good husband that I am, I gave her the gun. That was decades ago. It had the 3 inch barrel. I missed that gun so much and many years later, I told wifey, "I want my gun back so here is what I am going to do. I am going to buy another SP101 but this time in 2 inch barrel. You shoot either one and keep the one you like best." Well...., I bought a brand new 2in version of that wonderful revolver, took wifey to the range, and we both shot the guns. She likes to shoot 38 spl (she carry's 38 plus P)in the .357 while I like the ,357 mag's. As an aside, shooting same ammo in both guns, I could not tell them apart. After going through a couple boxes of ammo, I asked, "well, which one do you want?" She took the 2 in barrel gun thinking that it is a smaller package and will have less snag potential.

I am one happy camper! I got my SP101 back! Hooray! We now have TWO SP101's in the house.

Ruger has reintroduced the SP101 in .327 Magnum (6 shots) with a 4.2" barrel & adjustable sights.

I had a new model SP101 3" with the MIM hammer and trigger and was really happy with it until I had a friend of mine replace the front sight with a Meprolight tritium night sight. After it was replaced, the POA was off by quite a bit and I just became inaccurate with it. I replaced the hammer spring and trigger return spring with 10 LB Wolff springs and polished all of the internals which made the SA and DA pulls much better. Kind of missing it, but the money I got from selling it went toward my T9 so overall I'm pretty happy.

Since we're showing off the most versatile handgun ever created, here's my 1993 in 3 inch wearing Bawanna panels from 2011. I bought the SP "like new" in late 2010 from a friend that made it a safe queen from day one when he bought it new. I've put around 2500 - 5000 rounds through it (quit counting after the first year) , of which less than 100 have been factory rounds. My instant love for the SP-101 was the driving force to convince me to start reloading in January of 2011 at a rather late to the party age. My SP gets carried at least 5 days per week, often in really "unpleasant environmental conditions", and it never misses a beat.

Can you tell I love my SP-101

edit to add: actually, I think B made those panels for me in December of 2010.
