  • Can't decide which one to carry!

    This is ridiculous.

I own both a M&P shield in 9mm & .40 as well as my Kahr K9. They all have night sights and I've used my Shield 9 in IDPA all of last yr. I can shoot both the 9 & 40 just as well as the other. The K9 is without doubt a smooth shooter, slightly heavier however dare I say, more accurate than the Shield's. Down in Texas where I'm at we can open carry if we choose. Normally I carry OWB, just throw a shirt over it.
Any one of these pistols I wouldn't hesitate in carrying... But I can only carry one... (sure I can pack all 3, but let's be serious) and my problem is I can't make up my mind which! I know this is silly but C'mon guy's, help me out here... Obviously this is a Kahr Forum yet I haven't ran into anyone that talks bad about the Shield's either.

    Which would you carry?

For me the K9 would be a no brainer but because I only carry guns without safeties (training choice on my part). And the K9 is a whole lot better looking for your open carry days. You got stainless and wood IIRC. Sorry but I can't think of a single darn reason to carry one of the Smiths.

I'd have to carry that beautiful k9 also! If for no other reason than it's eye candy.

The Shields may or may not have safeties and if they do have them, they don't have to be on.

They are nice guns. Never shot one myself but held a few lately for coworkers. I'd lean towards the K9 also but the main thing is which do you feel most confident and comfy with.
You said lets be serious, I'd probably have at least two of them on me, 3 might be borderline paranoid but there are times.

Open carry doesn't enter the equation at all for me. We're open carry also but I never ever ever do it. Well when I'm mowing the lawn sometimes but never like going to a store or any business. I love it in case a shirt or vest gets pushed aside and the gun shows it's not biggie here but other than that it don't matter in the least.

Kind of sad since there are some incredibly nice looking guns and holsters, grips and stuff that beg to be displayed but alas in todays world is best to keep them under wraps.
Just my 1 1/2 cents for what tiny little bit it might be worth.

Huh, I didn't know we are open carry in WA. Reading this, http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattle911...egarding-guns/ , I guess we are, pretty much.

Carry the one with the highest capacity. If capacities are equal +-1 then get a holster for each and rotate them out.

Yes we are. Your link was a good one though. Fella asking if he can carry openly without people calling the police. The answer there is no. They will call, that's what sheep do and in todays environment seeing an open carry brings me right to attention also except I don't call.

Couple years ago we like several other cities with open carry, (I don't include Seattle, I consider them a part of Kalifornia). We had a dynamic duo who felt compelled to test police officers, ya know the routine, do something stupid but legal and then video the officers response. I was quite proud that all the video's they had of our guys didn't work for them. They recognized the scenario for what it was. Calmly explained that they were getting calls and they were compelled to check them out.

We even went so far as to have fun with them. If they were called in and confirmed in a certain area, all ununiformed people that had time would get to a spot ahead of them openly carrying and meet them in passing making it appear it was no big deal. I think at one instance we had 8 or 9. It was hilarious. They quickly lost interest and apparently crawled back under their rock or wherever they came from.
These guys had an AR and a shotgun the were carrying. I don't recall that bunch even having handguns.

Even in our part of the state, which is more gun friendly, walking around town with something conspicuously open carried isn't going to get much positive attention. Of course, some folks will take the negative attention if they can't get it positively.

I'd consider wearing this outfit (if I had one) for a special occasion:

I think if you were to wear that rig, you would need to dress accordingly

                      ....and carry business cards :

I thought that was Paladin but wasn't certain. Thanks for the confirmation.

If I was vertical I'd be wearing something like that myself. Back in my vertical hunting days I usually wore a similar rig with a Super Blackhawk.

Course he ain't gonna draw too quick in that photo with his Colt lagged down.

Well, you could always go with a shoulder rig. El Paso Saddlery has a few designs (these are the western style):

And these are the duty kind:

I've looked at the western style, love the Doc Holiday style. I can't seem to use the duty kind, for some reason it puts pressure on a bad spot in my neck and in an hour I can't turn my head.
Almost go from paraplegic to quadriplegic in no time. How sad is that?

I have a couple and I've adjusted them 6 ways from sunday and can't seem to make them work. I have one for my little Colt Cobra Snubbie and get along ok but rarely carry that one.

The big revolver style that rides on the shoulder and attaches at the belt used to work ok for me too, just taking a little bit of weight on the neck muscles I guess.
