Yes, withholding funds is exactly how the feds have gained control over the schools. In CA the state is using that tactic to force private schools (including religious schools) to comply with anti-religion, anti-free speach "laws". The gov just withholds scholarships and grants from schools they don't like.

I find it sad and funny that the liberals and blacks want to remove the carving of Lee from Lookout Mountain. They know nothing and choose not to know anything of the mans beliefs and temperament. There are many quotes of Lees condemning slavery. As stated in a previous post, he fought for his home state not for slavery. I guess the more you close off your mind the surer you are you are right.

Yup agreed, that's just spitting directly in the face of history. Ought to be another go around just to save those monuments.

Happening all over, should put a ban on liberals I guess, sadly I think we're out numbered but we do have far better armament and know how.

I think maybe a legal hunting season on them might be the answer. No more than 10 a day.

And now you understand the passion for "the right kind of gun control" and how it can be translated later to "the little people control"...

What they don't ever seem to get is, I'll resist them with a bow and some well place arrows if it comes to that.

No one shall tell me what to do or how to think, I'll cover that for myself.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
            "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?

Now regarding North versus South: Why do they make fun of how I talk and why do they believe that all southerners are rednecks who make their living carrying 100 lb. sacks of sugar through the woods? NOW I'm fixin' to go rebuild my still that blew down during last night's thunderstorm.

That was where I was headed with that question. Is the animosity because DC is up north and Southerners feel like the North is still dictating to the South? My take is that the Fed is the Fed. But if drinking age legislation came out of Richmond would that make it any more palatable?

Why do people think it's all 100 lb. bags of sugar for stills and alligator hunting? That's what people see on TV. Don't you all live on ranches? [emoji3]

Now that we're talking about sugar and fixins I will, admit that I saw 2 old guys and an old lady just out of the woods in front of me at the local walmart here in AL carrying out 2 - 50lb. bags of sugar and packs of yeast. My daughter thought they were going to do some baking and I had to tell her they ain't making cakes.

That being said the only moonshine I ever drank was in Canada so it isn't just a southern thing.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I was alway a little bit of a Civil War buff. It started when I was 5 and my uncle gave me a toy civil war cannon, a confederate flag and a Southern kepi (I probably spelled that wrong). But my deep interest really was peaked by the PBS series on the Civil War. I've read lots of book. I've even read Shelby Foots' 3 vol. historical narrative twice. I've even been lucky enough to visit several battlefields, recently that included Chickamagua…WOW. I've also visited Jefferson Davis's Presidential library. I have a friend from TX who didn't really know her families history until I started asking question. Then she search through her Mothers papers and discovered that her Great Great Granddad (James T. Brady) came to this country (legally, from Ireland) when he was 7 or 8 and settled in S. Carolina.
When war broke out he joined the Confederate Navy and helped bomb Fort Sumpter (which I've toured), and even spent time on the Merrimack (the south called it the Virginian). This summer I located her GG Granddads' grave and another of her relatives. It was amazing for all of us.
James Brady became one of those Southerner that "GTT" (Gone To Texas). After the war many Confederates from the Southeast moved to TX for jobs, a land that hadn't been decimated and to be with like minded people……people believing in strong States rights! I may be wrong, but in my study, and in talking with decedents of the "Southern Cause" most Southerners went to war "primarily" over two things; States Rights, and the fact that the North invaded the south.
Now with all that said, I don't believe the South has resentment over the war in the true sense, it's just that they still believe in States rights, and I'm right there with them, even though I'm second generation American and was raised in Michigan. Slavery was a terrible thing, but America didn't invent it, none of us alive have owned slaves and it is in the past.
I may be wrong but some of the misunderstanding about the South's respect for the Confederacy has to do with their pride in having stood up (against great odds) for "their" independence. They put life, limb and wealth on the line. And when you invest that MUCH in a cause how can you be asked to forget it???
I seriously doubt the presence of many Southerns who would go back to the days of slavery.
I started listening to Bluegrass music in the 90's (which I love) and these musicians are still writing new songs about the Civil War!! These songs are not about
returning to slavery, they are about sacrifice, love of country, and love of family.
OK, I'm off my soap box.

I just gave my brother the ten volume Photographic History of the Civil War (published in the 1890s) that our Dad had bought decades ago. Thousands of great pictures that always fascinated me.
I'm kinda neutral on the War For Southern Independence, as my direct ancestors from Missouri fought for the Union and the other branch of the family in Georgia were slave owners & secesh. Plus I was born in Georgia myself (at Fort Benning). When my dad was a kid in his small Northwest Missouri hometown, he knew very well two old veterans who spent a few months in Andersonville after both were wounded & captured in some engagement.

Not long after the WWI Armistice was signed, my Grandmaw cause quite a disturbance in that little town when, on Memorial Day, she put American flags on the graves of the Confederates in the local cemetery along with all the Union soldiers buried there. One of the Confederates had been the town doctor after the CW. She ignored the criticism from some of the old biddies and staunchly maintained that they were "all Americans in death".

Anyway, if they could all have a reunion here in Texas, they could set down & swap lies whilst imbibing in some of these adult libations....

The South won with new jobs, good education, beautiful women, and lots of good shooting. The North lost.

You hardly ever see a Southerner moving north but the opposite is overwhelming in the South, especially in Florida and here in Texas.

I actually have a hard time including Florida in my vision of the south. Just a piece of real estate attached down there in the corner.
They don't talk right, dress right or really eat right. You just don't hear the term Red Neck from Florida. Course there are a few exceptions.

Not that I got anything against Florida. I mean it's not like California or Mass, etc, I'd actually go there if it weren't about as far away as it can get without me getting wet.

Be a good chance to visit Wynn and CJB and a few others.
