However the lesson then and perhaps in my generation, they were incredibly loyal to their state unlike most (not all) Northerners who were loyal only to the dollar. Therein lies the difference, take notes y'all!
True, all rewritten history or Hollywood gives us are stories of the great plantation owners who had hundreds of slaves and became heroic officers in the Confederacy only to die or lose everything after the war. I guess there's not much interest in the many more small farmers who, if lucky, had a slave or two who busted his a$$ trying to scratch out a living but who died by the thousands in the battles and are now forgotten in history.

So strong was the love for their States that many West Point educated Southern officers resigned their commissions in order to fight for their State, most notable of which being Gen. Robert E. Lee. What a contrast to some of the Generals today who play the political game for advancement.

Bawanna, you get out of the big cities and tourist areas in Florida and you will definitely know you are in the south.

The animosity is against the South. See the attacks on our monuments, our flags, and the tiresome revision of history taught in schools and promoted at every opportunity. A few facts. Before the war, people saw themselves as citizens of their states. If an American was asked about his nationality, he would call himself a New Yorker or a Georgian. Think about it. Our country has no name. We have a description. We're the "United States". We call ourselves Americans but Canadians and Mexicans are also Americans. That's the name of a continent not a country. I'm from Virginia and heard a local radio host comment that the confederate flag should not be on state property. My God that is exactly where it should be. In today's numbers, VA would take over 200000 casualties in Virginian lives alone. That's the equivalent to loosing every male citizen in Richmond and Norfolk combined. Who or what were those VIRGINIANS fighting for? They were fighting for Virginia. They were protecting their country from an invading army. And their flag should not be flown on the state property they died to protect? And please don't be confused by propaganda. Only 30% of Virginians owned slaves. What was the other 70% fighting for? The right for rich people to be rich? The South has been dumped on and lied about for 150 years. The fight was over supremacy. Who would have the power: the federal government or the state government. The Feds won. Look around. Congratulations on your victory. My daughters Girl Scout troop was going to a union grave yard to put flowers on the Union soldiers graves. I asked the scout leader why. She gave me a stunned look. I asked her why were those northern soldiers in Virginia. She said, "to free the slaves". I said, "no, they were here to kill Virginians. And my daughter is a Virginian." You don't have to be Southern to be bitter. You just have to be informed.

Amen LRR. Makes me sick everytime they talk of tearing down or removing a monument.

I was born and raised in Memphis, and my maternal great grandfather spent the entire war with the Texas Cavalry, and my father's family has lived in the Hope, Arkansas area since the early 1800s, so I'm about as southern as you can get. But the south never had a chance of winning that war, and there is no way I could have fought FOR the enslavement of human beings. But I resent efforts by the left winger slime that want to change history and eradicate our southern heritage. If you don't like our southern heritage, fine, but if you think you can eradicate it, go to hell. I'll be glad to help you get there, too. That's MY attitude about the whole matter.

It really had nothing to do with fighting FOR Enslavement. That was just a side dish.

Right now the same thing is happening all over the country. It's all about big government telling everybody what to do more than anything. The left wingers can't seem to get up in the morning without a government mandate telling them what time and what to eat and where to pick up their free sh!t.

And that right there us why I like you.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Want to see what will be the end of our country as we know it???

Well, I live and travel through Atlanta Airport all the time. Delta (Southern Airline) is in the SOUTH terminal. All others (Before Southwest) are in the NORTH. The color for the South terminal is RED. The color for the North is BLUE. I'm a Damn Yankee in Georgia, oh yeah, The Civil War is just on pause.
