  • Do you remember when a 22 was the coolest gun?

So how many of you have teethed yourself on a 22 in the younger days? Now we like the bigger stuff like our 45's, 9's, 40's and so on. But at times I love to get out a 22 just to have fun, can still reload a box of 45 cheaper than 22's with casting. Around $2.50 for 45's and 22's still higher than that, but dame they are fun to shoot. Found this video with hickok45 going thru some old times with his, makes me think I should get one of mine out again just to have some fun again, but then again I always have fun shooting!!! So all enjoy the video and all have a good Christmas

A 22 almost always comes with me to the range. If everything else goes badly and not the way I plan I can still have a good time with the 22's.

Until awhile back when we had a 22 conversation, I didn't realize how many 22's I actually have.

And Merry Christmas right back at ya. I dreamed about your snow removal machine the other night. It was a good dream too, not a nightmare.

Did some plinking the other day up at brother's place with my Model 63. Love to hear the ping on the steel swivel target:

A few years back I met some friends at the range. We all pulled out the "big" guns and did what we wanted to do. I then went to the 50 yard range and pulled out an old Rem .22 I had grown up with. They all laughed at me as I shot away.

The next week we met again and, surprise, surprise, they all brought along their .22's. We all had a BLAST! I still love to shoot my .22's and still bring one or more whenever I go out to shoot.

We can get 22 for less than a dime a round. I can't reload anything for that! My son and I shoot the heck out of them, several times a week. Pistols and long guns. Cheap paper plates with a piece of tape centered and cans are targets of choice. Luckily, we have enough room to safely shoot down the hill behind our house. 22s rule for recreational shooting!

I have a 1938 model H&R Sportsman .22 that my grandfather gave me in 1959. Tack driver and I really enjoy shooting it. My kids learned to shoot with it and my daughter in law who was completely against guns learned on it a year ago. She now has her CCW and carries a Glock G42.

First gun I shot (and it was a gift) was a single shot bolt action .22 as a kid. A box of 100 rounds would last hours.

I still have that gun and after 40+ years the sights are 4 inches off some how at 25 yards. Dont remember them being like that as a kid but back then I probably didn't care. If I could hit the can or break the bottle life was good.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Agree with Greg's shirt. Every time I go shooting, the Ruger MkI goes along too. I put at least 100 rounds thru it each trip to the range. It's a good break between shooting the big bores.

Also have 2 22 rifles. One, a Glenfield/Marlin Model 60 is my favorite plinker. The other, a Marlin bolt gun, has a Surefire flashlight mounted on the scope. With the CCI "Silent 22s" it controls the skunk population in the back yard. That flashlight makes sighting in with the scope at night just like shooting in the daytime, maybe even a bit brighter. And those Silent 22s make less noise than a door closing.

Oh, Ive got to get me some of those quiet .22's. That is too cool. Wonder if those quiet .22's would take out an armadillo? I know 10 pumps on a pellet gun won't. Been there, done that. Darn armadillos wreck my yard and one was trying to make a burrow under my house. Told the wife if she would stop watering the flower beds they'd go dig and eat somewhere else.

They're so bold around here now that there is one that comes out and digs before sunset. They actually come out in heards.

You should give them a try. I do know that they won't cycle the Ruger MkI though, and I don't know about the Model 60 as I've never tried them in it. But they're fun in the bolt gun. Head shots are the only way to go, although one skunk still sprayed. Maybe he was in the process before I shot. They do shoot to a different point of aim than the regular stuff though, so I did dial that gun in specifically for them.

Found the 1" scope tube/flashlight mount at Bass Pro Shops if you're interested. I can't find it on line right now, but it looks like this clamp, only without the flashlight! http://www.basspro.com/Pursuit-Preda...ct/1511161536/
