  • Looks like the PM9 has new competition

Sig Sauer is bringing out a new ultra compact 9mm to directly compete with the PM9. The Sig P290 is a 6 shot, hammer fired, polymer framed pocket gun. A laser is supposed to be available also. Not sure of the trigger and no word on price. I'm all for competition... it makes every gun maker improve and gives us choice. It will be interesting to see the price point on this one. Sigs in general are pretty expensive.

so far no one is giving any specs on it, such as size and weight etc and price. If it's good, it will sell. if it made by sig, it should be good. The sig people on the sig forum seem excited although many said it willhave to go a long way to beat their PM9..

If it comes out soon, I'd be interested. I am in the market for a pocket 9, and already have two SIG's in 45 which are great pistols.

I really want to see what the insurance company is going to do about my theft of five pistols before I buy another gun. I got a letter today stating that they a evaluating my loss, although I don't know what they are evaluating. They've had my sworn Proof of loss, police report with serial numbers, detail description with values, and a picture of three of the guns for two weeks. I'm already out of pocket over $2500 on four replacements.

Personally, I do not like the look of it. I am not sure about that slide lock as well. It would have to go a long way to beat my PM9. Specs would be interesting to see however, and Sig does make good stuff (although, not all to my taste)

Also would need to fire it and see what the recoil is like.

Could be like comparing a LCP to a P380. Worlds of difference far beyond the price. Just my 2 cents....

Just to do what I do best and hi jack the thread, I was snooping around and I think I found WMD's very first post on Kahrtalk. Lots of history here.

Back on topic. I for whatever simpilistic reason have never bonded with Sigs. Everyone loves Sig's. I had a Sig Pro 40 for awhile and it was nice but we just didn't connect. One of the few guns I parted with. Also one of several that I of course regretted.

Always wanted a 220SAS but hasn't happened so far. Maybe this new one will float my boat?

wasn't the sig 220 the new entry with the interchangeable frame/grip caliber thing. I though when I read that ,,it was going to be a winner. I also figured it would be a compact. I was wrong on both. I think the novelty of having one gun with 3 different calibers is not thesame as owning 3 guns. Sig makes good stuff but of late I have read more negatives from sig owners themselves, so something has changed in the sig house.

Maybe this new entry will be a winner. With out knowing more,I wil lbet my Harley boots (size 10.5) that what ever that new sig compact is,,, will NOT be as small as the PM9 nor certainly as light either. If they prove me wrong then they will probably have a winner and kahr will have competition. Light in a sig seems to be around 22+ ounces.

I do hope them well though, good competition breads good competition. I was kinda amazed in reading one of the sig forums, that so many sig owners carry the PM9--HUMM!!!!

I am going to assume that the photos don't do the new Sig justice. The grip looks kinda fat. I'll reserve any other comments until I see one in person. I agree with others though, competition is a good thing.

The P250, which was their last, new offering, didnt' fare too well. It suffered from several reliabilty issues, FTFs FTEs, slide not locking back. I experienced all of this first hand. Add to that the issues that seem to be showing up in the Sig classic pistols as well, I really don't have much faith that Sig will produce anything worth while with the P290. I'll keep my PM9.

I really wish the Sig would have made this gun 10 years ago, back when their slogan was "to hell and back reliability", and they meant it! Sadly, the Sig of today is not meeting the standards for quality that they established for themselves.

10.5 on them Harley boots huh? I'll have to stuff something in the toes, I only wear 8.5????? The Sig 220 to me was a winner and I'd still like to have one although I know it wouldn't be my favorite child. That 220 SAS to steal Dietrichs words made my britches stick out in front.
Nice thing about me is them boots would last near forever, no wear on the sole to speak of. Last pair of shoes I replaced only cause my kid threw up in them (while I was wearing them of course) and my wife threw em out. I really liked them shoes and would of just washed em out but noooooo, out they go. Mighty wasteful, ain't found a pair near as comfortable as those yet. Hmm, oh yeah, I can't feel my feet. Well they were comfy before so they must have still been comfy.......

Personally I don't like the look of it. Handle looks awful short with the flush mounted magazine. That said I would never speak negatively about the Sig quality. They always seem to put out a quality product. It all comes down to personal preference. I prefer the aesthetics of the Kahr.

Compared to the PM9, that thing is ugly. I'm not interested, sorry.

+1. And not just until I see one in person, but I feel one in the hand and fire one at the range. I'm surprised we haven't seen more competitors earlier though. I'm looking forward to taking a look at the P290 and I'll make sure to keep my PM9 holstered so she doesn't get too jealous.
