OK, I agree. We'll have a Christmas truce like they did in WWI only our will be permanent. I don't want Bawanna on my trail either. Merry Christmas Jocko, and you too Bawanna, if you're listening.

I'm always listening, not my strong suit that listening.

            I like permanent truces too.

Yeah, I really liked that one and the one about the two wolves and the lamb discussing lunch.

Wifey just left for work and now I can goof off a bit, though the laundry pile is getting too big... might have to tackle that.

My best score for Christmas... well, besides my wife getting Christmas Eve off, was getting a good deal at Lowe's on one of those Keurig single-cup coffee makers. With 20% off and then my 10% military discount, I got the Elite model... just above the "personal" one that has no reservoir, using the money from my In-Laws... under $84 out the door and I had enough left over for one of the use-your-own-coffee filters at Wally World. I really "needed" one of these. I just ordered a bunch of coffee and included some De-Caf as well, 'cause I'll be "playing" with it a lot... and at night... handy for a quick cup.

If you dump egg shells on the top it helps settle the grounds, make a fine cup of java.
I no longer concern myself with the pot being all black from the fire, don't seem to hurt anything at all.

I never tried any eggshells... I use a pinch of salt which seems to soften the taste a bit, but I/WE like strong coffee. We use four 1/4 cup scoops for a 12(x5 oz.) cup pot of coffee... with cone filter. The finer ground coffee causes overflows on those "flat" filters.
The scoops aren't smoothed flat and my wife STILL complains it's too weak! I hate to let HER make the coffee. Nobody will ever drink our coffee. They know it's stout. We don't like "tea"... the weak stuff you can see through.

I think the first time I heard about using eggshells was on the Gunsmoke TV show... when Fester(?) was making the coffee. I think it was TV... I listened to it on radio before it hit TV.

What was the subject here by the way.

Nobody drinks my coffee either, I like it with plenty of flavor. It was Festus on gunsmoke, loved that show.

Guess we got my daughter one of them coffee machines you guys are mentioning, have to give it a try. I'll go look for some egg shells.

Yeah!! Drink it like ya stole it and shoot it like there was no tomorrow!

Went hunting with the natives when I was stationed in Arkansas - great folks back there. We went to a huntin cabin with an old oil drum type stove in the middle of the room and a flat plate welded on top for cookin.

On the only shelf was a 5 gal square tin of molasses that was hard as a brick. They put it on the flat plate to make it liquid again then boiled up a big pot of coffee (I think that's what it was). Whatever it was with a healthy shot of molasses turned into a decent cup a joe. Found out that tin has been there at least 6 or 7 years. Good stuff that molasses.

Well I know I would, but so far I have been fortunate enough to have never had to do so.
