I tasted starbucks once at the hospital.... what was it.... $3.00 for a cup of that stuff??? I made my way back to the waiting room in the surgical wing and made a pot of real coffee for free.

Actually, my favorite coffe was my grandparents style made in a little aluminum 4 cup drip pot.... as soon as the first pot was served, another would be started immediately....only real coffee drinkers would ask for seconds. You could stand a spoon up in that lovely aroma elixer. I have the pot, but no way I can make it taste the same without the water they had.

Dang.... you people just keep sucking the memories of happier times outa those dark crevices in my head

oh my surveyor, my parents used that type of "dripolater" for years. It made the best coffee IMO.

How about you guys can u remember the ol percolater with the glass knob in the top while the coffee was "perking" it will jump up in that glass know and when it finally didn't do that anymore, the coffee was done.

And they say we weren't modern back 50 years ago. Foke um!!

course Bawanna still makes coffee that way!!!! I bet you guys did not know that Bawanna for years was a lonesome sheepherfer in the hills of Idaho , who carved on his boring times with the "sheep" airplanes on aspen trees. I think that is how he learned to make gun grips. Oh my though how he "loved" those sheep..

Theres just a little Angel in every sheep I've ever met. I did one time fix up a city boy with an ugly goat, he didn't know no better and I still laugh.

Bawana there is a coffee from Hawaii, I think, made in those little thingeeeees that you put in that maaaachine that does have a full rich flavor. Its called Caribou. I like it try it and let me know what you think.

I'll see if I can find some an report back. Caribou, kind of a nice name for it, not sure the connection to Hawaii but I no longer question such things.

My son brought me back a pound of that coffee from Hiwaryer a few years ago...it's o.k., but just not right for coffee. There's just been nothing like the old Maryland Club or Folgers that came in the old steel cans with the "key" opener, and throw in a handful of the Community House (the original "real" stuff with chikory), drip it and let it steep for a few minutes after it's done dripping..... depending on your water chemistry, either a dash of salt, or the crushed egg shells to make the water "just right".

Yep, we still use the 12 cup percolator at Mom's house when there's more than two of us drinking coffee.... all metal construction, including the basket, and NO paper filters. I do still have a 40 cup percolator, all metal, but rarely have occassion to use it. Nowdays, seems like the coffee makers all have plastic baskets, paper filters, plastic everything just about. Sure makes coffee taste nasty. Hell.... I'm gonna go get PaPaw's coffee pot out of his old home made china cabinet in my kitchen and drip some coffe the right way tomorrow. Cajun style

Many have told me in the past that there is little or no explanation for some of my actions in my earlier days.
Many I suspect I'm still paying for, others I will pay for someday. Sort of the walk of make payments scenario.

Sometimes the gutter and down is where I live.

Thanks for your efforts, I can never have enough guys covering my six. I never thought of them as livestock but now that you mention it and looking back I guess the description does fit.

I get Starbucks coffee when on the road, but it's their inexpensive regular brewed stuff. Keeps you awake but not because of the price. Around here I buy the Costco Kirkland brand of "Roasted by Starbucks" Colombian coffee, 3lbs for $8 and it's good.

Starbucks is okay for regular coffee and you can add all the sugar and half and half that you want, including my favorite... Raw Sugar. McDonald's coffee isn't bad and cost about the same, but they tightly control the condiments. When I get a 16 ounce cup and the cashier asks what I want put in it or how much of those things do I want, it sucks. I ask for 8 sugars and a shot of milk or whatever white liquid they're using. Then I get handed 8 tiny bags of white sugar which seem to hold half a teaspoon each and I have to keep asking for more... standing there at the counter in the way of other customers.
At home I can put 3 heaping teaspoons of Raw Sugar and a teaspoon of CoffeeMate into my 11-ounce mug and it's just right. It's a lot of trouble at McDonald's to get it close enough for me. Last trip, we had our own condiments and I just used them in the van... much better, and we had a real f***ing spoon to stir it with... or with which to stir it.

Don't you just love trying to stir your hot beverage with a tiny plastic semi-straw thingy that gets soft and swishes without moving much liquid.
It's good that we don't travel that much.

When we do travel, we take a 12-cup cone-filter drip coffee maker and everything else to make our stout coffee, including distilled water... never have to descale the coffeemaker and we don't get all the chemicals and crap allowed in the local water. My tolerance for harmful toxins and crap is ZERO.

                              End of rant.

Then why not simply ask for a spoon? They serve hot fudge sundaes and such, ya know, so they have them...
