I've got one of those too. It is/was a great knife. I have flipped that blade open and closed thousands of times just because it's fun to do. Unfortunately, I trusted an "expert" to sharpen it about two years ago and now it's FUBAR. I replaced it with an all black Benchmade 557 Mini-Griptilian and only Benchmade will sharpen it.

I have a big drawer full of knives. Nothing over $150 probably. The one that is always in my pocket is a Victornox Swiss Army camper.

It's strange to me that most catalogues talk about the handle or grip & almost never mention the steel it is made from. That's what I want to know about.

I use diamond impregnated steels to sharpen my knives. I want them to shave hair & that is how I test them for sharpness. Bald arms!!!!!!!

Speaking of hair shaving, where's Jeep? This thread is right up his alley with his knife sharpening and stuff.

Earth to Jeep, Earth to Jeep, Mork calling Austin, come in your immenseness.

Years back, I laid down the coin for a Chris Reeves Sebenza and have never had cause to regret that choice. It's been the finest pocket knife I've owned.
Another favorite of mine is the inexpensive Douk Douk. They have a thin blade with a high flat grind that makes them great cutters. They are non locking knives, but have a very strong back spring. I prefer them for carry in areas that regulate the carry of lock blade knives.

          Honorable mention:
The NRA Outdoors Steigerwalt Springless Lockback; love the blade shape and feel of this knife.
Camillus CUDA EDC in D2, it was a lot of knife for the money.

For maintaining an edge: I find the Spyderco Sharpmaker hard to beat.
          For heavier sharpening:
Kitchen knives: Water stones for my Japanese knives and a carbide tool for the Old Hickory/Chicago Cutlery knives.
Most other knives: my belt grinder or the water stones. Carbide tool or a file for machetes.
In the field; various EZE-LAP diamond products

          Regards,
          Greg

I find it interesting how they put some names on thes eknives. SOG Pentagon elite. ,,, Sebenza. douk douk.

What ever happend to the just roy Rogers or annie Oakley pocket knives. Now we gotta name some of these knives with a name hype that draws a person to it more than the quality that is in it.. We see that in some of the gun makers adds. like ultra compact, now what the hell is that, when you look at there specs it might fit in a400# mans pocket. I guess it is all about advertisng- ain't it??

I carry a knife that stays permanantly attached to my belt next to my spare mag holder for my 1911 main guns.
Usually its a Benchmade Darkstar 885 which is a very high quality knife in G10 with Ti frame liner and cmp154 blade.
My other knife is pictured below but i don't carry it since its an auto, And illegal in Ohio to carry unless your emergency personnel.
I actually found it to be tremendously usefull in the garden when working with plants and on hand full and only one hand to open a knife and the auto is perfect for that work.
Kind of a lowley duty for such a great knife, Mabey ill trade it off for something i can carry.

About 8 months ago i got strapped for cash and sold my Benchamde made for LNIB Bradley cutlery TI framed SV30 on ebay for $140 used, That was the best knife i ever owned but i was afraid to really put it to use so id rather have someone else put it to work.
Even tho Benchmades can be overly pricey i do find them worth the money much like my Kahrs, Over built is a good thing!

I just carry my trusty old Buck knives. There inexpensive and do the job well. I have a couple of 501s for work and daily pocket carry and a 110 that I occasionally wear.

Knives are ok for SD as long as you don't bring one to a gun fight.

I broke a Kershaw "Titanium" and been looking for a replacement. Extremely light weight and handy.

I think I have solved my sharpening issue...Last trip to Bass Pro Shop I bought an electric sharpener for about $49.00, Don't rememper the brand but it has 2 slots that you pull the blade through on each side then turn it off and use the manual slot for the final edge...Very quick and it works great, after the last edge I hit both sides on the ultra fine ceramic chok stick and then use a leather razor strop my grand pappy gave me and the old Gerber is razor sharp again...I even went through the kitchen drawer and put a super sharp edge on all my butcher and paring knives so now I got to be real careful with them too......I like this little machine and wish I had bought one sooner...

got into knives for a very short time... like jocko said-they are very addictive. at least for me, they were. i got a pro-tek tr3 swat and it is the baddest knife i have ever owned. its an auto and the blade is like a razor. i can literally shave with it. that said, it is too n ice for me. costing a 175$ i cant bring myself to use it! i actually still have it in the package that it came in and ive had it for 1.5 yrs now. so i went out and bought a blackhawk hornet II. it has been an excellent everyday carry knife. nothing fancy to help it open or any fancy do dads, but it is a very nice knife and durable. plus the store i got it from has lifetime sharpening and i have put them to the test. this knife was 75$ and i think a good overall value for the money.

Clip works great, EXTREMELY easy to open and close one-handed, great size, and holds a nice edge. Gets used for miscellaneous day-to-day tasks, but could be used defensively if the need should arise.

Here's where someone was selling one (my my my how cheap these old knives are these days). Figure it's easier than my trying to take and post pictures. http://www.armslist.com/posts/4982

That is exactly the blade I had on me in Bosnia. Saved my hide more than once too. These days I have more sharp objects than I know what to do with, but I still use them all at some point.
