  • How does Kahrtalk feel about .22lr "tactical" rifles??

I was in my local gun shop the other day browsing as I do too often... But I was checking out some of those cheap 22LR "plinking tactical" rifles. (M&P) came to mind. They run around 400-500 bucks but seem like they could be kinda fun. Considering I am anything but a hunter and I do not plan on an apocalypse anytime soon I was kinda interested in one just for fun at the range. I mean you could shoot that for hours with the girlfriend of friends when they come to town for about 30-40 dollars. Besides my uncle does have a .223 Knights Armament SR-15 (w/ EOTEC) if I wanted to shoot something a little heavier and I suppose a little bit farther. But all in all any of you wise individuals out there have any experience with one? Pros and Cons? Or should I just save my money and not even bother with one. But I know for sure a base Bushmaster without attachments I kinda wanna stay away from just given price of ammo alone. But thanks for the input guys since I've only been here for a couple days and I am loving all the responses.:53:

Keep in mind I dont know my a**hol* from my elbow when it comes to rifles.

$400 to $500 is cheap?? My humble opinion would be to buy an SS 10-22 with synthetic stock for about $230 or so at Walmart and save the rest for ammo or tricking the Ruger out. Good grief! $500 for a wannabe "tactical .22"!!
I would opt for the Ruger and maybe a GSG 1911 .22 pistol.

Its funny IMO that I have bought and seen just about everything Wally World has to offer, and I buy 90% of my ammo from there (excluding my Golden Sabers) but not once have I even glanced at the guns in the case but thanks for your input because yet again I am the king of all noobs when it comes to rifles and that of the sort. But I will be looking into alot more options with the help of you fine people. TYVM

And by cheap I mean I think Bushmasters run 8-900 and my uncles Knights Armament was I believe just over 2000. But that is a beautiful piece.
(Please dont quote my prices I am not a blue book...lol)

I've had several of those 10/22's over the years, but just don't need any rifles now. I've looked at those latest Rugers and thought about getting one just to have a rifle of some sort, but I just don't need it, living in the city and having no place to shoot it. An indoor 15-yard range just wouldn't be worthwhile for the rifle, but will do for my pistols.
I still have my 25-round Butler(?) magazine and mag-feeder... just in case I ever do get one of those again.

GSG also makes a little 22 carbine, kind of a MP5 clone looking thing that is just a blast to shoot. My sons if very very accurate, its looks wicked cool and just like the Ruger theres all kinds of options for tricking it out, although it certainly don't need any of them. They make a carbine and a pistol version. We got the carbine model.

I plan to look over a GSG 1911 22 if I can ever find one, looks like a great little fun 22 for a very reasonable price.

I have to agree with Wynn on this one.400 to 500 bucks is a right fair chunk of money.Keep looking and you`ll find something nice for much less.

If you want it, get it. Guns can have more than one purpose, if you choose. I would like to own one of each.

Now, about the idea of taking my girlfriend to the range for a day of fun......

              it would only happen once

                THIS!

You can pick up one of these for about 325-350 and they are SUPER fun. Go check out my "I Got a 1911!" in the 1911 Pistols sub-forum here.

I have had a 10/22 for a lot of years. It was the normal carbine.

I have changed it twice once with a custom made carbon fiber stock. It reduced the weight to about 4 pounds. I didn't get the ergometrics of the pistol grip as good as I wanted. I covered it in camo cloth thought that it looked pretty tactical. Later I wanted to try a bull pup design so I bought a plastic bullpup stock for it, that is the way it is configured today. I would like to build my own bullpup stock from carbon but haven't made the time to do it.

I have numerous times darlin. Thats a fine looking pistol and your directly responsible for planting the want in me. I still want to see on in person before I drop any money and right now the piggy bank is dreadfully empty but its day will come.

I saw both of the 1911 import .22's at one vendor's table in the last gun show this month. Both were $300 and the STI GSG definitely looks better quality than the other. I don't remember what the other was called, but I saw another at my dealer's store last week... the Puma... looked like a Hi-Point import.
                      I really thought about getting one, but I wanted a 1911 .45.

Just to clarify and I'm not a perfectionist but it's ATI GSG not to be confused with STI which is a totally different pony.

I haven't seen the Puma but if it looks like a Hi-Point I suspect I can live without.

100Percent, I've put my 10/22 in several stocks also. Tried a bullpup too, loved the feel, size and look but with about 6 inches of plastic between the real trigger and the bullpup trigger it was pretty hideous. I still have it, not sure why.
A real one, not encased in a Mattel piece of plastic with linkage would be wicked cool

I have it in a Boyds laminate thumbhole stock I bought unfinished. It was a project to finish it and make it the way I wanted but it's real nice now.

If you ever build one, I'd sure like to see pictures.................

Oh, my bad! I thought you only had eyes for me and your husband. You know how I get so jealous.

I'll try to control my jealous rages. I know the rest of the fellas love to hear from you too, I shouldn't be so sensitive, must be all those sensitivity sessions with Surv. Glad thats all over and we can be ourselves again.

Somebody suggested I was a Bogart the other day. This must be what they meant.
