I was wondering if anyone else feels a disadvantage in having only 7+ 1 available in today's environment. Although I truly like the feel of the K9, and it is equipped with a Crimson Trace, I often seriously think of carrying either my Glock 26 or Glock 27 only for the extra firepower. As to which I would prefer, all things equal, the Kahr K9 would win. Just wondering if anyone else feels this way. I do, however, always carry an extra 7 round mag.

I understand your feeling. I have only 6+1 in the PM9 but I have purchased two additional 6 round magazines so I feel somewhat better. That said, I would hope shot placement matters more than the size of my magazine. I convinced my wife years ago that it was quality, not quantity that mattered.Bill

I carry spares so am ok. I thought it would be great to carry a pair of 10rd spares for the 45 Colt, but they were simply too heavy. Now I carry a pair of 7rd spares which are great.•"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." - O. L.

If my G19 would ride in the exact same place as my PM9, I wold probably be carrying my G19. that being said we all know it doeksn't do well in a front pocket, but 15 runds versus 6 is hard to debatenegatively.. Shot placement is #1 and for my and my pi-s poor shooting skills 15 rounds might enable me eventualy to get to the com on the BG.
Course I do feel if I can't do it in 7 , I am probably dead and I don't get paranoid about it either way. I carry so that is a big plus and if you carry whether it be 6, 5 or 15, that is one heh of alot better than anyone who is not. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

lol I caught that..
7 rounds is a 40% increase in firepower over the 5 round .38 I sometimes pocket carry with no hesitation. I guess everything is a compromise.K40 Stainless (traded to) -> PM9 (sold to fund) -> Ruger GP100 Blue 4"...now Kahrless

I'd say it depends on your line of work. If your in a position to pursue (Law Enforcement etc) then I'd feel under gunned in an off duty situation. They are perfect for a backup gun and an off duty gun with a couple extra mags.
For a defensive save yourself and your loved ones 6 or 7 ought to be enough. Course ought to don't always cut it so when I carry my PM45 alone, (extremely rare) I carry 2 extra mags.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

In most civilian self defense situations, a handgun with single digit capacity will be sufficient to eliminate the threat. Then again,we`re all on a first name basis with Mr.Murphy and his law of probability. That`s why I carry extra mags for my PM9 and speed loaders for my S&W 642.Probably won`t need `em but....In the area in which I now reside, when I`m placed in a group of four or five guys,I`m known as "the smart one".God help me.

Decades ago, when all I carried was a snubnosed .38 special, 5 shot revolver, I sort of felt that way, but the one and only time I've ever drawn any gun, that little hunk of steel garnered such an instant and unconditional capitulation, that I became more comfortable with it. Not because of it's round count but because of it's universally recognised threat potential. Seven + one suits me fine, so long as it's a defensive role, protecting my family and not society as a whole.Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

I used to only carry my hands, elbows, knees and feet as weapons. I've expanded my arsenal and added the PM40's 6 round with a CTL (due to caliber preference, relative small size and weight). It's a good accurate gun with some punch. I prefer to pocket carry it and realize it may not be the carry for the fastest draw, but it needs to be comfortable to carry. I shoot it accurately and don't feel compromised at all by only having 6 rounds. Quite the opposite. In fact, I feel better about carrying it vs not carrying it. In certain situations when I feel a need for more ammo, I simply slip an extra mag on my belt or in my pocket. Understanding that perhaps the original point may be that 10 is better than 6....well, OK...maybe so. I use the gun and capacity that feels good, I can shoot well, serves the intended purpose, suits my needs, etc.... Everyone has their individual preference and reasons. In a sense it is similar to a boat...all of them have their pros and cons with none perfect for everything. My Sword - PM4044N/CTL/Talons

This question has been debated countless times with no clear cut answer as it always comes down to what makes you feel safe in carrying.
Carrying my CW9, 7+1 with spare extended mag. With my SP 101 357, 5 +2 speed strips or 2 speed loaders. If I knew in advance that I would have to battle my way through some situation, I'd carry the CW9, SP 101 and my CZ Phantom with 18+1 and two additional 18 round mags plus a couple of 15 rounders plus a rifle
.
So where's the cut off point on the number of rounds carried?

I never feel under gunned carrying a six or seven round weapon. That is especially true when I go afield with my 45 ACP. If I can't do the job with the first six I probably shouldn't have been shootin in the first place and save the last round for myself.
I usually carry one spare mag on my person, sometimes two. I also carry spare ammo wallets in my truck when on the road.

all of my 3 semi-auto "dedicated carry guns" are single stack 7+1, and my carry revo is a five holer. I carry one reload in my front right shirt pocket. If I feel like I may need more than that I can carry one cross draw or shoulder and the other strong side....or like MW said, add a rifle or shotty. At least 70-80% of my waking hours are comfortably covered by the 5 hole .357 mag, and the rest lately has been a CW9 and single spare mag. Now, if for some reason my little semi-rural hole in the road was suddenly gang or zombie infested, I would still probably opt for the two (or three) gun carry. You hafta play the odds, in your favor of course, and be comfortable with your decision.

I have reduced my carry load from my 13+1 Glock to the 6+1 CW40. Shopping for a spare mag or two now.
However, while I liked the good capacity of the G-23, for comfort, the Kahr is significantly more comfortable, and I figure that since it is easier to carry, it will be with me more, while the Glock may not have made the trip. In that situation, I'll end up having a comfortable 7 rounds instead of deciding to leave the bulky G-23 at the house and be unarmed.
