  • State of Emergency

When the governor of this state,Queen Beverly Purdue, issues a state of emergency concerning the upcoming storm,I wonder if it will contain the disclaimer that says it does not infringe on ccws or private citizens possession of firearms.Originally a SOE stripped away those rights for the duration of the SOE.The last few she has issued contained the disclaimer about firearms but I wonder what lies in store for the upcoming one.It seems to me that a citizen needs their firearms for protection more desperately during a SOE than at any other time.I have seen people turn into animals at the slightest hint of inconvenience.I remember when Hurricane Fran hit Raleigh back in the nineties. There were fistfights over bags of ice and at gasoline pumps.Fights broke out at grocery stores and Wal Marts. The State Patrol had to be called in to escort line crews from the power company to their work destinations. This is one time when I will become a lawbreaker if need be.On a good day, response time from my county sheriff`s dept.runs between 25 and 45 minutes.I shudder to think what it`s going to be like if we end up with a worse case scenario. All that ammo I have reloaded and my modest arsenal don`t seem so overdone now.But let`s see what Bev has to say.
In the area in which I now reside, when I`m placed in a group of four or five guys,I`m known as "the smart one".God help me.

Same thing happened back in 1989 when Hurricane Hugo tore up Charlotte N.C. I remember standing in a long line to get a gallon of gas from the one station that had a generator to run the pumps...One gallon for a chain saw was all they would sell and some people had 5 gallon cans and wanted to fill them...I was glad to get out of there before something bad happened...I also remember an ice truck pulling into a parking lot and selling ice for $10.00 a bag and people were paying that much until a mob beat the truck driver up and stole all the ice they could carry away...In rough times people can get crazy and do stupid stuff while there is no law and order...

I think it won't bother us much... rain and winds. I filled all of my gas cans, generator, and vehicles Tuesday. I have plenty of water and we'll be okay if we don't lose power for more than a day or so... gotta run our a/c... about 2 gallons an hour maxed out, so not cheap and impossible to keep going much longer than a day.

I wish all of you along the coast further north, the best of luck and I hope that the hurricane diverts further East and you have little impact.

The "c0ckroaches" south of us are probably already queued up waiting for ice and other freebies. The Gummint will take care of them.

You can come on up to the mountains if it gets too crazy there.

Thanks for your concern but I think I`ll have to stay put.Down here,if you left your house for a storm, when you got back your place would be looted. There are some of the nicest people here you would ever want to meet but there are also some of the most common white trash I have ever seen.Their lives revolve around drugs and alcohol and they have no morals at all.Inbreeding isn`t unheard of in some areas but like most vermin, they don`t have the nerve to come at you face to face. The knowledge that they may get shot keeps them in their holes. You just can`t give them the opportunity or you will pay the price.

My wife "Irene" is kind of put out with how they named this one.

Dietrich, I'm thinking maybe you should bury the outhouse flush or a little below grade, maybe a pair side by side kind of like them bathtubs in the Cialis commercials. Get ya one of them telecope kits so you can watch for looters, stay below so the winds and stuff can't get ya and it'll be all good.

Looking at the map your definitely in the hot zone according to the folks that try to predict where these things go. You might have to reconsider that mountain offer. You get yourself took out by the storm I'm gonna give ya 30 demerits and take away your normble button and membership card.

Diet, that's what insurance is for. No amount of insurance is going to bring you or your wife back to life.

                  Fox News on Atlantic beach

Just saw Fox News on your beach there in Atlantic, Diet. Forget the white trash, I think you're right to hunker down and protect what's yours with all those weather and media hounds headed your way!! :84:

Atlantic Beach actually has nothing to do with the community of Atlantic.AB is about 35 miles to the south. The media doesn`t ever even entertain the notion of soiling their Topsiders by coming this far into the marshlands.I`m kind of glad too.All they are hoping for is death and destruction.Might be fun using them for target practice though.

I can now understand a lot better the discussion in http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=8010

The biggest concern where I live is the occasional coyote - nothing like what you face. I would certainly have a different attitude if I lived where you do. It's just a shame that people have to be that way.

I hope you are not affected by the storm in any way.

Stay safe and keep your head down Dietrich. Hope the worst part of the storm passes you by. But even the outskirts of one can cause a lot of damage with tornadoes and heavy rains.
