Hey Diet, If you do decide to stay and hunker down during the hurricane be sure to slather yourself up real good with Crisco so if some flying debris hits you it will slide right off...Seriously though, if this thing brews up to a category 4 storm like they say it might be best to bug out because if you get a direct hit there won't be much to save or loot....Reminds me of what Ron White says..."It's not that the wind is blowing, It's WHAT the wind is blowing and if you get hit by a flying Volvo its not gonna matter what precautions you take"...Last time I drove up to Camp Lejeune from Atlanta it took a little over 7 hours and if you find yourself in need I will be happy to come and help in any way I can... Brother Diet, you take care and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers and let us know as soon as you can how you are....Good luck my friend...

Load all your weapons and ammo, and some clothes, in your vehicle (that's all that's important, right) and head up here to the mountains. I have a 1 bedroom apartment but you can sleep on my couch or the real comfortable inflatable bed that I have. Or you on one and your wife on the other. You're always welcome.Very interesting...

Thank you all for the advice and JFootin, you in particular. We have stocked up on food and emergency supplies including First Aid items, batteries and gasoline for the generator. The gen can keep our freezer and fridge running along with our well.If I don`t let too many things run at the same time it will also heat a tankfull of water so we can take comfortable showers.Hopefully, after this storm,Mrs.Dietrich will give me the go ahead to buy a generator that will run the entire house. Now I will tell you an interesting bit of information.Atlantic,NC is situated right on Core Sound. You can look across the sound and see Core Banks which is part of the outer banks barrier islands. Here`s the kicker.FEMA and FIRM[Flood Insurance Rate Map] do not put this community in a flood risk zone. This locale is actually the highest point of land for many miles.I found that hard to believe until I went to get my property surveyed and the county verified it.The bank demanded the flood zone info and I was glad to provide it.We will lose power for several days but I will let you know how it all goes when I can.In the area in which I now reside, when I`m placed in a group of four or five guys,I`m known as "the smart one".God help me.

Hey buddy, you probably already thought of this but you might not wanna go fishing in the boat for the next couple of days. I imagine the bite would really be off anyhow. Big waves and wind and stuff, spill your beer all over the boat and make a mess anyhow.
I got your number and if we don't hear from you Sunday or Monday I'll have Jocko call you, if you hear stuff like fokk this and shoot em like they stole from ya you'll know who it is. My wife took her Swedish Cousins to Oregon, left this morning so I can't have her call, well maybe I can, IF she comes back shes suppose to be here Sunday if I remember right.
We got your back on this. Lots of us closer to ya than me but I'll get there eventually.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

Sounds a bit exciting, it does. Looking at the map, there's not much of anything between you and the storm should it come in. Heck it looks like you can spit in the ocean from your front porch. Even the Outer Bank has an open door in front of you. I truly wish you well should you stay.•"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." - O. L.

As for the subject of the OP, it's a darned good reason to support the Second Amendment Foundation, who have for example sued North Carolina to overturn the emergency powers ban on firearms.

If you want a leader in Congress or in legislation, there is none better than the NRA. But if you want to push your rights through the court system, the SAF has become a clear leader in that venue.
As for Irene, we're depending on you Dietrich to soften her up a bit before you send her on up our way into Maryland. i figure we''ll be following in your footsteps only about 10 hours behind. I know we can count on you as our vanguard to take her down a notch or two first.
When hurricane Isabel put a whoppin' on us several years back we were cut off in our neighborhood by fallen trees over the road for 2-3 days & didn't get electricity back for about a week.
This time we're better prepared. Got a nifty generator for the house, stocked up on lots of gas, an obscene amount of ice cream, and enough ammo to defend against any marauding zombies that might be washed up on shore by the storm surge. I'll man the front porch with my CW9, put the wife up on the second story with the Beretta 92, and have the kid out back on the deck. Her Ruger 22/45 isn't past the waiting period just yet, but she'll be happy enough toting my Uzi with her.
Keep your head down Dietrich; we're praying for you!Ray

In the State of Emergency issued for Isabel, our governess issued the one that does not restrict firearms carry at all. There is new legislation that will do away with that horrendous restriction in the other forms of SOEs for good but it hasn`t been through the hoops it needs to yet. From what I understand,it won`t be long.IMO,it shouldn`t have been there in the first place.NC lawmakers tend to drool sometimes. In the area in which I now reside, when I`m placed in a group of four or five guys,I`m known as "the smart one".God help me.

Probably a little late to ask now, but do you have a power inverter that plugs into your car cigarette lighter/power jack, Dietrich? I also had a chargeable portable battery that I have a small Black and Decker Power Power chargeable battery that can supply 16 watts for ~4 hours for items with non-polar plugs or via usb (this was useful for cell phone or small mobile gizmos). While it's a small power source in its own right I used it to charge my cell phones and such when no primary power was available.

Yep,Mr.Toad,we got those. When I walked out of my house this morning,I could hear the ocean already roaring in the distance. She sounded angry. The storm has weakened slightly and taken a slight shift to the east. We`re still going to get clobbered but thank God for every little thing.Got a ton of last minute chores to do so this will probably be my last post until it`s all over and we get our power restored.I expect for it to be out for several days, starting somstime this evening. The full force of Isabel won`t be here until early tomorrow and will be gone by sometime Sunday morning. In the area in which I now reside, when I`m placed in a group of four or five guys,I`m known as "the smart one".God help me.

My friends and owners of Atlantic Beach Realty in Atlantic Beach are evacuating for the first time 25 years. My friends who is my former pastor in NC that lives in Oracrcoke Island evacuated too. They are calling for it to be a pretty huge storm.

Things are looking to be rough. According to the tracker, it's going to be right down the pipe. Me thinks Deit will be very busy tonight and tomorrow.•"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." - O. L.
