A friend of mine picked up one of those and I shot it with him a week ago. I was surprised how accurate I could be on attacking boxes that were 20 feet away basically shooting it from above the hip.

It let you know when you shot 2 3/4 rounds, but the 3 inch rounds were painful.

Far more fun that I expected.

I'm ok with a Remington 870. It's a tough durable shotgun. My preference just leans the other way. I prefer the controls on the Mossberg.

I'm a Fan of the Remingtons... But 10k+ of trap and skeet rounds wasted in the last decade, with 99% shot though a pair of Remington 1100 B grades might have swayed me just a bit.

Melissa, If you want more than the bead front sight, XS Sight Systems has a big dot Trijicon that epoxies over the existing front bead sight. Easy on and a great sight picture.

Have fun, shotgunning is a blast.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
        "Nope" I said, "just prepared".

Just a bit curious here, but why would one need any kind of sight on a HD shotgun? Odds are if you need it there will not be a lot of light. Accuracy is really not needed shooting out of an 18.5" barrel with a wide open choke.

Even when I'm bird hunting I never "aim".

Melissa, I'd suggest you pattern your new 500 at about 20 feet. Use the bead to aim at your choice of target. If you are satisfied with the spread (my 870 has a spread of about 1 1/2' - 2' at that range) then practice shooting from the hip, regardless of if you keep the pistol grip or getting a stock with a pistol grip.

First thing you'll notice is you will be shooting low. Very easy to correct with just a few rounds. Once you know how to "point" the muzzle you won't need any kind of sights. This will work in broad day light or middle of the night.

And, as always, make sure you identify your target before pulling the trigger.

Not trying to sound condecending in the least, I promise. I just don't think enough folks have truly practiced shooting from the hip and truly believe that any kind of sights on a HD shotgun are sold much the same as that flashy fishing lure to a fisherman.

You will love the knoxx stock. I got mine so hopefully the fiance would/could feel comfortable grabbing the shotgun over her little .380 if something happened when I wasn't home. She shot it last week for the first time. She was scared as heck the first time she pulled the trigger. After that I couldn't get her to put it down. She also said her shoulder wasn't sore at all the next day. Oh, btw, my knoxx said nothing about a forend in the listing, but was included in the package, so you may get one as well.

Hit in the face? So, I shouldn't shoot the 00 buck that I ordered?

You're a hard woman melissa. You can do it! Just don't try to shoot it like a pistol. LOL.

I think that Knoxx stock will soak up most of the recoil. Your tougher than the average cyber bride though so I know you can take it with a smile on your face and a song in your heart. An evil smile and song but none the less.

I'm gonna wait for your report to get my own Knoxx. I fell off the wagon and just ordered another blade. I'm a dead man when I get home.

My deer gun is the 870. Rifled slug barrel with fiber optic rifle sights, and I added the Knoxx telescoping recoil absorbing stock to tame it just a bit. Might not be the best HD shotgun, but it reached out to 80yds for the last doe I shot.

Regardless of the gun, I wholeheartedly recommend the Knoxx stocks.

LOL I can always count on you to say sweet nothings to me.

I've got a Knoxx stock on my 20 gauge Rem 870 and think it's totally worth it. Some reviewers did not like the Knoxx stock, but I read not pull it back into your shoulder so tight that it defeats the recoil reducing springs that are in the stock. Just let the springs do what they were made to do.

Back a few years, when the wife decided trap and skeet looked like too much fun to just watch, I learned about women and shotshells.
When I took her out to buy a shotgun we pulled everything off the shelf for her to try. In the end, I shot Remington autos so she picked a 1187 premire with beautiful wood. When it came time to try shooting it I was worried even though my wife did not seem to be. I did not want her to have some horrible first time that would sour her to shooting trap.
So I found these Ultra light 12gage shells with 7/8th oz of #8 shot and off to the club we went. On the trap field, I went through my training drill for new shooters, but my wife had watched for long enough to have the ideal already. So we lined up with a couple of buddies and sarted calling "PULL". I kept a close eye on the wife but she was not hitting very many targets and the new gun did not like ejecting those whimp load shells. When the round was done, the wife had only hit 9 out of 25. When she asked my score it was a distracted 21.
Even she knew it was the shells and she told me to get her some of the same that I always shot. So up to the clubhouse I went and bought four boxes of 1 1/8th oz Winchester AA trap loads. I told her these shells would kick alot more and she, very sweetly, told me to "shut my pie hole and give her the shells".
                            could'nt argue that...
We started the next round and on her first bird she "ink-blotted it". She looked at me and said "now thats more like it!" Then she proceeded to kill 18 out of 25 and then 19 of 25 on the second box. Later I caught her bragging to the other ladies and showing off the shoulder bruise.
To this day she shoots 1 1/8th oz AA's whenever we shoot trap and a high veolcity 1oz load for skeet.
I asked her about her thoughts later and she just srugged and said "girls just want to have fun... and smoking the bird is fun".

                            NEVER underestimate women and recoil.

Maybe she'd like to be a cyber bride. Melissa can vouch for me and my sweet nothings.
