I dunno, but ribbed conundrums usually get a happy response.

So I'm thinking of using the money to either buy her a gun, or buy "us" a gun that she can get proficient with and possibly carry, once able to do so.

She's not a complete noob... she qualified on the Beretta 92 in boot camp... she's shot both the Kahr and the Glock, but she doesn't like the heavy recoil. She hasn't shot my XDSC, but has shot other 9mms and is more comfortable with those.

And to keep things simple, I'm leaning more towards the revolver side of the aisle.

So what suggestions do you have?
Great Idea! Get her what she wants to carry. My wife picked the S&W 380 Bodyguard because she could work the slide, it was small enough that she WOULD carry (especially when she is on her walks), and she could shoot it. Good Man!

Time to train her up on defensive carbine. Use the opportunity to build a nice, light AR. $600 might do it these days as low as prices are.

So she isn't interested in carrying (yet), and said she can learn to shoot with the XD9SC.

Her words... "You earned the money, buy a gun for yourself that YOU want."

YOU really really want a Ruger SP101, REALLY REALLY and she might like it too.

As someone said, everyone should own a 357 snub nose.

So I narrowed my choices down to either the SP101 or the LCR... And I ended up going with the LCR for a few reasons.

First, I'm just not a huge fan of stainless, so the LCR was just more appealing to start with. And the lighter weight is a plus as well, as far as carry is concerned.

And with the added few ounces of the 357 over the LCR 38, it will be even more comfortable when shooting 38.

And, my wife said that between those two choices, if she did at some point decide to carry one, she preferred the LCR over the SP101, because it looked less "western." Can't argue with that.....

The LCR is a nice weapon. I surprise myself how accurate I am with mine. I do wince when thinking of shooting a box of ammo through it though, which is usually the minimum I practice shoot a gun on any given day. I don't really need to practice with it much though. It shoots naturally and I seem to be able to hit close enough to anything I would really expect to use it for. I might like shooting snake shot through it.

Buy a box of .357 for it though and see if you ever use it up.

                            Glock 23,
Rent several guns and let her choose.
LCR's are great, but if she is serious about an automatic I have some ideas.

In my opinion everyone needs at LEAST one revolver, (mine is a LCR 357) but if she would like a semi. grip size does come into the picture and I'm positive there are many good suggestions out there. For me the friendliest grip is my Sig 239. It's a single stack 9mm,
8 + 1. The slide is easy to operate, but the gun is heavy.

I find variants of that frame very uncomfortable in the hand so make sure he holds it first. Otherwise, I agree it's a good option.
