Tell me again why anyone would serve?

People join the military for various reasons. Love of country, best available option, something they want to do for a living. The point is, for whatever reasons they have, they serve. They risk their lives everyday, they make sacrifices so the rest of us don't have to. Whatever their reasons, I am forever thankful to all who served yesterday and those that serve today. They do this in spite of our Commanding Douche Bag, not because of him. They serve for Americans, not for politicians.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Like it or not, the president can't do too much that the generals and admirals don't want to do. They're going to have bigger balls and better powers of persuasion than most presidents, including the current one.

You can bet that's why we're not in Syria now. He may be the commander in chief but the generals run the military (at least for the moment anyway.)

MOST generals are leaders and MOST presidents are figure heads although they can screw things up.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Tell me again why anyone would serve?

I myself being one of those people that served. I didn't enlist cause I was a gang banger or told to join or go to jail or anything like that.
I joined active duty Marine Corps because I believed in freedom and my country. At the time in 2000 we weren't as bad as we are now. In my heart I didn't serve my government, I served my country and the citizens. I also did it cause it was fawkin ******! Sh!t I got to see the world, shoot machine guns, howitzers, drive a tank, tear up Hummers, and learned a ton of stuff that maid me who I am today.

          ^
That being said would I join today's military?
Probably not. At least until the government gets their heads out of their asses.

The Q? Is a bit offending to me as well.
What you should be asking is why didn't you enlist?

I wouldn't enlist in this Army. We are not fighting for freedom, or for our defense, we are fighting on behalf of corporations. Nothing we do in Afghanistan is going to last very long once we pull out. The Taliban will just come out of hiding and take over again. The Russians will have a very good laugh over our sacrifices. You can't just go set up a Democracy in a country that has been ruled by warlords for centuries and expect it to last. Too many people are stuck in the middle age practices of Islam. How do you bring a country that has lived in a middle age world, into the 21st Century? The Taliban did one good thing, in that they eradicated the poppy fields. Now that the US is over there, they've had the biggest poppy harvests in decades. Just shows how phony the War on Drugs is.
Some say the European banks were hurting by not having the heroin profits deposited, (Not just the tin foil hat sites, but other more respectable news sources) and were getting low on funds, and the US invades Afghanistan, and the poppies are growing more than ever, causing heroin to be more available than ever. Now the banks are full of drug money and are happy again. That may be BS, or may have some truth to it. Hard to say. But if you look at the estimated poppy production in Afghanistan, you'll see that it was very low while the Taliban was in charge, and steadily increased once the US got involved. Anyone else see something wrong with this? Must be part of that "winning the hearts and minds of the Afghan people. I guess we only fight the War on Drugs, when it's convenient.
Iraq, is a total mess. Why would anyone sign up to go fight there?
Neither of these wars involves National Security, the pilots of the Airliners that crashed into the WTC were Saudi's. Maybe Al-Qaeda had some training bases there. Any weapons of mass destruction were flown to Syria, so of course we didn't find any. And now we can't get a government that works set up. Again, we are trying to bring Democracy to a country that has only known kings and dictators for thousands of years. The people have to be ready and want change, and not have it forced on them.
If a foreign nation actually attacked us, I'm sure many would volunteer to fight a known enemy, but this mess we are in, is much like Viet Nam, the insurgents move freely among the villages, and we have no idea who the enemy even is. They integrate into the Iraq society, and hide among the masses. The enemy must not be Al-Qaeda since we are shipping them arms to fight in Syria, in violation of the UN small arms treaty, and laws designed to prevent the transfer of weapons to known terrorists. Once again, Obama waives his magic pen, and the shipments go on. Benghazi is said to have been a major gathering point to send weapons to Turkey who would then get them to the Syrian rebels. Maybe that is why we can't get a straight answer from Hillary or any of her minions on what happened. And some 400 shoulder fired SAM missiles are missing and who knows where. Along with numerous other weapons that have just disappeared.
Who wants to go fight a war with an invisible enemy, with one arm tied behind your back so you don't offend some *******. And the press just champing at the bit, to get a picture of some soldier "abusing" a POW.
I fear my own Government, under the current administration, more than any of these towelheads we are fighting.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I joined for several reasons. One reason that I joined was to repay a debt that I felt that I owed to those who served before me who enabled me to live free in the greatest nation on the face of the earth. Another reason that I joined was to stop the spread of communism to insure that we would retain our freedom well into the future. I have nothing but the highest regard for anyone who serves our country honorably and to be able to serve our country is an honor in itself.

I wish I would have enlisted, but chose college instead. Would have been a good time, under Reagan. But now, fight for what, the 47% percent who do nothing but bleed the country, for detroit or chicago or any of the other liberal bankrupt regions that have become leftist cesspools? Or kalifornia? Fighting for what America WAS I could, what it IS NOW I couldn't. Veterans, instead of being thanked are being manhandled by nobamas thugs while they're opening the doors for illegals. I would not serve because now serving is at the benefit of foreigners who are stealing our country blind. And quite frankly, I don't care if the "Q" offends anyone.

You don't serve your country for what a politician believes in. You serve your country for what you believe in. If you don't believe in your country then don't serve, but don't spit on those of us who do believe in freedom and America and do serve. I believe that were done here.
