    John222,
I agree with all you said but for the following:
"The current batch of repubs are single minded boneheads whose idea of compromise is demanding everything and giving nothing."

I've only seen their uncompromising position on the things they object to, ACA and the budget. Don't know about them working with others on other problems.

Here is another angle on the shut down. The government is a process of requisitions, bidding, awarding, contracts, etc... It is a time consuming process with bean counters and pencil pushers every step of the way. The simplest request takes months, not days or hours. However, in less than 8 hours of the shut down, miraculously, professionally printed 3X4 foot signs appeared all over the country in tens of thousands saying, "This (park, facility, etc...) is closed due to the Federal SHUTDOWN"...with professional logos printed on them. There has not been a government shut down in 17 years. The signs were designed, specifications were determined, they were requisitioned, bids posed, vetted and contracts were awarded. Materials were ordered and the signs manufactured and distributed by freight companies. Does this leave you feeling that the shutdown was orchestrated and planned well in advance. Millions of tax dollars were spent in the process and there is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.

Did you notice who he threatened when he wasn't getting his way on raising the debt ceiling? He threatened to not pay:

          - Social Security Retirees

          - Military Retirees

          - Social Security

          - Disability and

          -Federal Retirees.

          - Now let this sink in really good...

          - He did not threaten to stop payments to illegal aliens.

          - He did not threatened to take frivolous benefits such as Internet access away from violent inmates.

          - He did not offer to fire some of the thousands of unnecessary federal employees that he hired.

          - He did not offer to cut down on his or his wife's frivolous gallivanting around. $20 Million already spent on family vacations. (One Million on a FL golf outing). All our money...why not?

          - He did not threaten to not pay the senators and representatives or any of their staff.

          - He did not threaten to take benefits away from welfare recipients or to stop the free cell phones they get.

          - He did not threaten the food stamp programs.

          - He did not threaten to reduce payments in foreign aid.

          - He did not threaten to cut back on anything that involves his base voters.

          - The list could go on and on. He is in full political mode!

Get out and Vote in the mid-term election - 2014. Support the people in the House and Senate that are willing to cut taxes and spending.

I also find it odd that during all of Obama's hand wringing and closing down the WWII memorial he found time to send PBS a check for $450 million dollars with a signed card that said "Who Owns You Baby"

Since it's clear to anyone with a brain that the O administration engineered the charade they called a shutdown in the first place, specifically to damage the GOP and its supporters, the only benefit to conservatives is to hopefully piss us off enough get your sorry asses out of office ASAP.

Compromise hell, we're being robbed. Anyone that doesn't see that is ignorant.

If we don't stop having the federal government involved in everything before long we'll have nothing.

I think the shutdown was all smoke and mirrors, they were prepared in advance for this. It takes weeks or months for government employees to do any small task like making signs. Funny how signs were posted immediately and not just in Washington DC. All the politicians in washington are in this together, some are chosen to put on a show. This show was to show all who don't want Obama care that at least someone tried. Shows like this keep the population divided, left on one side, right on the other making us easier to control. I wonder what might happen if we put our differences aside and worked to the goal of taking our country back? One more thing, all these short term budget deals can mean one thing not many have considered. The country is actually broke. You can't keep printing money with nothing to back it up. Think about it!

Exactly! Wake up everyone, it's a fiscal disaster. Run your household like that and you'll be living under a bridge.

Industrial states vs.agricultural states. Each has different needs. If the industrial state wants a new shipping port they may have to give a farm subsidy to a rural state. Our government was designed to accommodate compromise. The current batch of repubs are single minded boneheads whose idea of compromise is demanding everything and giving nothing. One thing to remember is that when you compromise with a liberal that compromise becomes the new normal. Then the liberal asks what are you going to compromise on next. It's called incremental-ism. Each little compromise brings you closer to totalitarian socialism. Eventually the government starts to control every facet of your life. It gets to the point where those in power start telling how big a soda you can purchase for the greater good of man. There comes a time in everyone's life when they must take a stand. Either that, or go with the flow. What kind of man are you?

I would not suggest compromise, there are enough laws on the books that if we all stay within the law we should be able to live together peacefully if we mind our own business. When you mind other peoples business and try to change what you don't like about them you become an activist. Right now the business of the country, where our focus NEEDS to be is the financial condition of the country. That's the train wreck about to happen. We're too busy pointing fingers to focus. I would say the shutdown strategy worked for now. What's next??

Yeah, I have a tendency to get wordy.

I'm not too concerned about the national debt. The debt could be paid off within 20 years without cutting anything. All that we have to do is stop increasing spending and growth in the economy will pay down the debt. The problem as I see it is that in the history of the country we have never frozen spending. We simply keep increasing the debt ceiling. That cannot continue for much longer or interest on the debt will bury us. There are too many built in automatic spending increases in pet government programs now. Eventually enough of the people in this country will recognize the problem and vote the rascals from both sides of the aisle out of office, or America will become Greece. I'll probably be dead by then and will cease to care. Woe be it to the children of your children.
