The U.S. Justice Department on Monday charged 18 current or former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies with federal civil rights violations in connection with an FBI investigation into alleged excessive force in the nation largest jail system.
The charges include unjustified beatings of inmates and visitors at downtown jails, unjustified detentions and conspiring to obstruct the investigation at the Men's Central Jail.

The other day I read an article in some online rag, that statistically you had a much greater chance of being killed by a cop, than of being hurt by terrorist activity.
I think there is too much of a "military" attitude among many LEO's with us being the enemy.
Whatever happened to Officer Friendly and Serve and Protect. The cops today, seem much more aggressive, abusive, rude, and confrontational than they did 20 years ago. I think that is mostly among the younger LEO's, than the older ones that have been around and been damn good cops. And of course different departments have more problems than others. The State Troopers/Highway Patrol usually seem to be the most professional of the bunch. And small towns vary widely from being full of jerks to having some of the nicest guys around. People in general seem much ruder than they were 20-30 years ago, so I suppose dealing with jerkwads all day might cause you to adopt a bad attitude towards civilians in general.
And I think you will find more corruption in large cities departments, simply due to the number of people they hire, you're going to have bad apples in any large group of people, no matter what their business is. Churches, hospitals, large businesses, etc. NYPD seems to have a long history of corruption among it's officers, (and politicians) Simply due to the number of officers NYC employs they are going to end up with some bad apples.
It seems that not a day goes by that I don't see some questionable LEO action. There were a couple stories on NYPD cops in the news today, in one case they were harassing a civilian who was taking out his trash or something. They wanted to see his ID, and he refused since he wasn't doing anything illegal, and they grabbed him, but he broke free and ran inside his home, and the cops broke in and beat the hell out of the whole family. (didn't get the link to this one, you can probably Google it if interested) While in another case a veteran NYPD officer was arrested for shaking down an Albanian café owner to the tune of some $24,000 over several months. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/...icle-1.1536045
Yesterday it was a Campus Cop that shot and killed an unarmed student (who looked to be about half the cop's size) during a traffic stop in San Antonio http://www.mrconservative.com/2013/1...sial-incident/
Now the student was yelling at the cop, and according to a witness his last words were a sarcastic sounding: "Oh, so you are going to shoot me?" followed by gunshots.
I guess some of this can be filed under "Power Corrupts..."
