What made me comment was observations I made while watching the video and the many other bad shootings I've seen in my life. What really infuriated however was the follow-on knucklehead trying to rationalize the bad shoot... "you had to do it." No, he didn't "have to do it" and clearly he shouldn't have done it. If a civilian were in the same position, said shooter would be in prison for a long time.Originally posted by Longitude Zero View PostOther than a keyboard what makes you an expert on what is and is not good or bad police work? Did you watch an episode of Miami Vice last night? I am not necessarily defending the officer but you call out is uncalled for and inappropriate.
By the way; I grew up in a LE family, and live and worked at Quantico, so I saw my share of LEOs that had absolutely no business with a gun. Selection as of late in some areas has been less that average. Lot of people have a badge and gun that shouldn't... here's one example.
Other than your keyboard and twisted panties, what makes you think the cop acted properly. Listen to what he says and time it. Please tell us how he acted according to standard parameters.Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

One more personal anecdote. I see my own family here.
Several years ago my mother and father, in their'80s, were out for a walk around their neighborhood when an off duty deputy pulls up in front of them in his vehicle, pulls his weapon and starts shouting commands to my parents. WTF!! Turns out he thought my dad might be carrying. Shitforbrains even called another off duty fool to come as back up. The sherrif at least had the wisdom to fire the moron, which was a good thing because when the three of us sons heard about this, he had some irate people wanting some personal time with him.
I often wonder how close this came to being a similar tragedy to the old man in the video. Badges, fools and guns should not mix.Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

No defense to the officer but I defer to the thread title: STAY IN THE CAR!!!!
Everyone had a chance to avoid this shooting. I'm just glad they all survived. It could have been much worse. And the mistake that started it all was the civilian getting out of his car. I've had a loaded gun pointed in my face once. I was 16 and too stupid and drunk to stay in the car. I'll never make that mistake again. There but for the grace of God go I.O|||||||O

Technically while wise to stay in the car the mans mistake rather than getting out was getting back in after he got out.
This no doubt didn't occur to him in the least as he figured he was an old man and no threat. But even and old man can have evil intent and pulling out a cane, well that would raise alarm bells in any scenario, especially if the light is questionable.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

Ran into a 'license check' today. 4 LEO's, one of whom was keeping an eye on some squirrilley lookin characters sitting on the curb by their Jeep. Anyway, I pull up to the check, one hand on the wheel, one holding both my drivers and CC license. Never announced about being armed. CW-45 was in the small of my back and my truck gun, a Smith .40, was in the console. Only thing the officer said was 'have a nice day, sir'. There 're plenty of good cops out there.

LZ, thanks for mentioning turning on the dome light at night, I forgot that one. And being polite, that is very important. You get what you give, you give attitude, and you're going to get attitude back. Don't argue with the cop, he's just enforcing the law, if you want to argue, go to court. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to say you didn't see a sign or something, as long as you do it in respectful manner, but ignorance of the law is no excuse, but maybe they might give you a warning instead of a ticket. I would say that depends on the location. If you're traveling the less traveled highways, some towns are known for being speed traps, with zero tolerance. Like if I'm going from a 55mph to a 40, I usually just take my foot off the gas and let the car slow down instead of hitting the brakes, in some locations they will nab you for that, if you're not slowed down to 40 by the time you pass the sign.
It's funny my group that I ride with gets by with a lot of things that a car would probably get pulled over for. And we certainly don't look like a MC patch wearing bunch. Mostly older guys, 45-75 or so, without any MC type apparel. No leather vests with patches all over it, or anything like that.Tom
