Or it can be the opposite. A person can be loved on the forum and find they are a smuck in real life. That's probably me right there.

I believe in chances and I like reasonable debate which of course is disputable in itself.

We get an influx from time to time of new folks that think we're doing it wrong and think they are going to change it and we sometimes do change a tad but not to their specs.

I've received many PM's from new guys, the last one included who wanted me to chastise or even ban a long time member who he felt had wronged him. Longevity sometimes earns a little grace, only reason I can think of that Jocko and Muggsy are still here.

Most I suspect are coming from very tightly ran forums and can't deal with the controlled freedom we have here up to a point.

BAM you said it right there. Many people cannot handle freedom. That is why this country is struggling so. The concept of just because you can doesn't mean you should is foreign to them. So they want to be controlled. Flame suit on.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Freedom is an effort. You have to get off your duff, vote, be involved. That was the whole friggin' point was in the first place, self government. Communities, states, people started abdicating what the founders intended THEM to do and shoved it off on to the federal government and they were MORE than happy to fill the void. Boom.

It's a total waste of time to argue with a liberal because you're just not going to get through to them....In my work place we have the Liberal King of the Universe who is constantly and loudly spouting off about how great Obama is and how Obamacare is the greatest thing since sliced bread...His world revolves around the DemoRats and "The Union", at Christmas he had the music changed to only generic jingle bell stuff because he's an atheist and said he shouldn't be forced to hear all that "Jesus Music"....He's just that kind of idiot and we all know one somewhere....

As often as I want to get up in this guys face and tell him a few things I have to remind myself that's exactly what he wants to happen and he absolutely refuses to listen to facts and only changes the subject if things start sounding a little too close to the truth for him to argue with...

I don't know who it was here that posted this and it describes an argument with a lib to a tee....Never wrestle with a pig because you can't win and will only get stinky and dirty and the pig loves it too much!!!

              Priceless
" An armed society is a polite society".... Robert A. Heinlein

I must admit when I find out someone is a liberal, I lose all respect for that person. I just can't respect someone who could be that naive and ignorant. Am I the only one who feels like this?

No, there's at least two of us.

There's a Sgt here who has always been a little different and I guess I knew all along he was a liberal, worked with him for 18 years, awhile back for some reason I asked if he voted for Ovomit, he said he did enthusiastically! I asked if he would again, he said absolutely. First person I've ever asked who has said out loud they voted for him.
He then said out loud he was a Liberal. Frankly I never cared for the guy much, but now I don't care for him at all.
I don't like to associate with stupid.

There are people on both sides I respect, and there are people on both sides I don't respect. It's never been black and white for me.

Really...it's not what you believe, but how you play the game of life that earns my respect.

You're a better man than I am. I just can't respect stupid, and liberalism is stupid. In my opinion, liberalism is responsible for almost everything that is wrong with this country. I could spew all the facts and figures to prove it, but essentially liberal policies don't work and usually cause more harm. If you're not smart enough to realize that, I just don't have any respect for you concerning much else.

No I am not better than you...I have just lived long enough to see it isn't so simple.

I've met plenty of people that support the 2nd Amendment and Gay marriage....
And others that support traditional marriage and gun control...Or are anti-Obama care, yet support emigration reform.
People are funny, and are not easily pigeoned holed into simple left and right ideals.

But listen to my ideas, and let me listen to yours, discuss respectfully and I will respect you.

                            Take care,
                            Bob

On the rare occasion that I've gotten a liberal/progressive oriented person to actually listen, and defend their position, I have gotten a very few to realize that their 'plan' just doesn't work, won't work, in the real world. I don't know that I can say that I've seen any of them switch sides, but they get to a point in the discussion where they are unable to defend their position and readily admit it. At that point, they politely go down the path of 'well that is just how I feel things should be' and they bail out, even though they simultaneously admit it can't work (economics/free market, freedom, self defense, size of government, government programs to level the playing field, etc).

The left, in the course of history, have had some good, well meaning/intentioned ideas. They just take them too far. There is a fine line (well, maybe not so fine) between good government oversight and regulation and interference, intrusion, and being overbearing and dangerous.
