I am not saying that a higher power does not exist, it very well may.
I am saying that I cannot accept the Christian version of that higher power. And the heaven vs. eternity in hell concept is one of the main reasons.

Muggs, I generally agree with a lot of what you say; however, I think you are a bit reaching with that conclusion. Many people who do not believe in G-d still feel world hunger, torture, slavery and murder to be wrong. The Bible doesn't say it is wrong to let a 2 year old play with a loaded Kahr P40 but we innately know it is still wrong to do so. Wrong and immoral are sometimes not mutually inclusive. Perhaps this is fodder for another thread..........

Morality was created by man to allow us to live together socially. One doesn't need a god to know the difference between right or wrong, good or bad. There are millions of highly moral atheists in the world.

As you have probably figured out, there are certain members who believe that we cannot do, achieve, believe, think, or anything else that you can think of, without a god. Probably some who think that If you have no god, you will end up somewhere nasty and hot. You must not be a moral person, if you don't have a god. Contrary to popular belief, there are many who go through life without a god, and do just fine, and are very moral upstanding people. Why this would be shocking to some, is beyond me, unless you let religion rule your life, which many people do. I would hope, that if you are one without a god...............that members would not look down upon this person, and have an open mind. It's a touchy subject for some...........for me, I say live and let live. Leave the holy book for those who truly want it.

I do not personally have a problem with any of the comments made in this thread. Many of my family and other close relatives are of the born-again Christian variety and I understand where they are coming from. Those who are true to their belief really do feel sorry for those who are not and often feel bound to try to save them. When I was younger, it was difficult to express my convictions with them because I did not want to disappoint them. But with age, I have become comfortable with who I am and I do not mind the conversation. It is not much different than discussing politics as far as I am concerned.

Now, when Muggsy says "I'm glad to see you leaning to the right if ever so slightly", I know it is not animosity.
And just for you, Muggsy: "Goes to show that a person does not have to be a Christian to be right."

I believe there are many good, moral, upstanding citizens who are atheist or agnostic. I accept that I alone, as a Christian, cannot and will not change them. I am called to make the attempt via an OFFER of a free gift of salvation. God's Holy Spirit convicts of lost condition in time. Some accept; some deny.

Thing is. Our good is just not good enough to a perfect Creator who created us (purpose in life) to serve and worship Him and have no other gods/idols put before Him, a jealous God.

For those 56ish and older.....Has the Democrat party changed in its stance on various issues that the current concept doesn't match what the party stood for in say the Mc Govern time?

Republicans are much more conservative and less moderate. Democrats are more socially liberal.
