My take on race.

Race is an important identifier if you are looking for a specific person, for whatever reason. It could be a senior alert, it could be a kidnapping, it could be a suspect in a crime. It is also important as a personal identifier when used for ID's.

Until we (meaning all of us, the media, the associations, etc) stop identifying people by race for all other reasons, the race issue will never go away.

Race was never mentioned in either linked articles. So, the question becomes why is the race of either the victim or the shooter important and why was it mentioned by the OP and some of those who commented?

The point I was trying to make was the way certain people were being described here. The whole "perp" vs "thug" thing. I will state again, when your wrong your wrong, race shouldn't matter....And sterotyping someone isn't helping in the least bit either!!

Then if race doesn't matter, again I ask why when a person commits a crime and it is talked about here a minority is referred to as a thug and non minorities are referred to as perps. It should be one way or the other not dependent on race, or where they may live etc.

Uh no I am not. Take the time to read past post, its not that hard. Amazing how people try to play stupid.Minorities were referred to as thugs, while the guy that shot the cop was referred to as a perp. Its in writing here, unless it suddenly gets deleted. Use one term to describe all lawbreakers the same. There have been derogatory terms used about blacke, latinos, muslims, etc. That kind of crap needs to stop.

A thug is a thug no matter the color. A perp is a perp no matter the color. Swilcher7 is seeing a problem where there isn't a problem. I don't believe that anyone on the MB is a racist, but all of us are intolerant of criminals regardless of color. Racist is an easy accusation to make and very tough to defend against.

Ok, again for the thousandth time, I NEVER called anyone here a racist.. But, some of the comments have had racist overtones..And yes there is a problem here... There were times when the president was referred to as a monkey. Hell, some praise the Kahr product, but yet refer to Mr. Moon's deceased fathers followers as "Moonies." And you think that's not a problem...No one called the guy that shot the cop a "thug", It was said the "perp" shot the officer. But Brown was called a thug...I am no way saying what he did was right. If I came here and fired off a certain word to describe a white person, you'd be calling me a racist, and I probably would be banned...

Personally I never use the word thug or perp myself. I'm fond of dirtbag myself.

I do habitually refer to the president as a monkey, not because he's black but because he's a moron. I use the term for his wife too and I'm not ashamed.
I know it's probably insulting to monkey's the world over and I apologize for that.

The failing in logic of your argument is that we have MULTIPLE commenters on the forum. One may refer to all criminals as thugs, while another refers to them all as perps (neither is incorrect). You seem to be under the impression that everyone here calls a minority a thug, and everyone uses a different term for a white offender. Are you seeing a pattern of this from a specific poster? If so, by all means, call him out on it, but there's no need to cause a stink about a perceived issue without looking at what's really happening.

I prefer the term Jackhole myself. Since when does the word "Thug" have any color associated with it?
