    http://poorrichardsnews.com/post/110...goal-is-not-to

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.
"This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution," she said.

Did you read the article with a critical mind? That's not what she said at all. She said nothing about destroying capitalism - that inference was made by the article's author, not Figueres. Capitalism is eons older than the Industrial Age, but fossil fuel dominance has not been.

She's talking about changing the world's economic model from carbon fuels to post-carbon energy production. That's all. And it will happen eventually anyway, once carbon fuels dry up. The goal of post-carbon economics now is to begin a shift before the world is in complete calamity at the last moment. That's why ALL of the major energy companies are investing in post-carbon research. Fear not, there will be trillions in profit to be had in post-carbon energy generation, distribution, manufacturing...

Sorry man. Look, we disagree about a lot, but I know you love your country so think of it this way. If the US claws on to a fossil fuels without gradually switching to renewables, our grip will be solid, but one with cold, dead hands when those sources dry up, and become more expensive than the alternatives. China already sees this, which is why they're already further ahead than we are with solar cell production. Marathon, BP and the rest know this too, which is why they're investing. The US government knows this as well, which is why we haven't shifted from foreign oil - many believe it would be better to dry up other's sources before our own. In fact, the U.S. Military has stated they're concerned that fossil dependence will become a strategic vulnerability and national threat.

So, even if you don't believe in global climate change (which I'm guessing you don't), believe that fossil fuels are not a viable end-game for the US - renewables are. Renewables will make us energy-independent, less subject to foreign political instability and will even provide us a marketable advantage if we stay ahead of the curve.

Otherwise we'll eventually have to beg others for their oil, coal and natural gas.

After reading the article, she doesn't say it but the author of the article does---I tend to agree with the author. I have no choice given my view of the UN. ANYTHING that comes from the UN is pure poison IMHO. The end goal of the UN is to destroy the U.S plain and simple. Our country's sovereignty will be more undermined and individual freedoms will be guaranteed to not exist on any level if the UN has its way. Therefore be wary about the UN and its agendas. The UN is a saprophyte on the U.S teat. Stop funding it stop participating in it. Rant over.

There has been climate change since the beginning of time. I guess the earlier radical changes were because of cave men using fossil fuels in their cars and factories? In 1974 we were out of oil. Anybody remember? The world supply was drying up. Gas prices went through the roof and the 55 mph laws were passed nation wide. Uh huh. If the Republicrats are on a drive of any kind it's because they care soooo much about us and the planet? They never even think of money, money, money and CONTROL, CONTROL, CONTROL. So far for the money spent on "renewable" energy has been a dismal failure except for the chosen few getting rich on it. Sorry but innovation cannot be legislated. The Chevy Volt was going to save us all. Remember? Ovomit said he was going to buy one as soon as his term was up. He can't. They failed. Anybody remember billions of their tax dollars going to all the "renewable" energy companies that went bankrupt? Where are the results? Where is your money? Thank goodness for politicians the American memory is super short. As John says - "Sigh".

the open minded, critical thinkers will invest wisely and make bundles- that's the way the market place works.
the close minded will continue their careers picking fruit and plucking chickens.
never fear about "capitalism", whatever that is, is well enjoyed by the folks with the power. money buys what the rich folks want and the needs of the poor are addressed by social programs(socialism), in a happy world there would be a wonderful balance of both. hehehehe, don't hold your breath.
(ScottM, I got to tell you that I find it more than hilarious, the kind of stuff you would encounter here on KahrTalk. I mean what is KahrTalk? it's the chatty place for Kahr pistol fans. what's a Kahr pistol? Kahr Arms is a vanity/boutique business owned by the off spring of a powerful/very rich self made religious leader(con man). it would be like the popes kid owning Beretta, hehehehehe. anyway, sure looks like the tin foil hat crowd has found a little home here. have fun.)

It is all about control - yes, someday the fossil fuel resources will be almost gone and we will have invested in the alternatives, but the current UN goal is to milk all the wealth it can out of the industrialized nations & distribute it to the havenots.

I trust the UN about as far as I can throw Michael Moore.

For health reasons I do NOT recommend trying that, even with good health insurance.

soon the earth will be supporting 9 BILLION people......hmmmmmmmm and the use and soon to be scarcity of fossil fuels is the problem? Maybe it is time for a paradigm shift that no one wants to talk about.

I've seen that line of reasoning followed across multiple angles, and it never ends in a good place. But by all means don't let me spoil the ending! Want to start with eugenics, forced abortions or both? [emoji56]

Agreed. Everybody that agrees with anything the UN has to say is PART OF THE PROBLEM.

Yep it is a tough subject. We are the only animal that if ceased to exist that the planet would actually be better off. Think about that. Perhaps we were meant to destroy the earth? Think about that? Perhaps we are the cancer on a global level? Please do not respond to this post. I do not want to hijack this thread. Thank you. My apologies to the OP.

And not to follow a hijack, but for (dark) comedy relief, a friend of mine once pondered "what if the purpose of humanity is to evenly radiate the planet's surface so that the egg can hatch?" [emoji15]. Ya know, I had no response to that, and not sure I do still to this day!

Anyway, there's plenty to call out about the UN. Uneven and marginally racial biases towards European prosperity and military non-intervention, the propensity to let the US solve (well, at least pay for) the world's problems and so much more.

But just because they say they love kittens doesn't mean we should hate them. Just because they envision energy diversity doesn't mean we should tie our fates exclusively to coal, oil and natural gas.
