  • The California Drought - What does it mean for rest of us?

I was watching a video about the California drought. They said that it's liable to continue for quite some time. Due to the conditions the Earth is in, smack dab in the middle of ice ages, when temperatures are at their highest. It has nothing to do with any of the Global Warming theories cooked up by Al Gore, but is just the way the planet goes through warming and cooling cycles. The Global Warming crap is designed to make us feel guilty about how we are "destroying" the earth and all that garbage. It's amazing how many have bought into this crap. A large Volcano eruption can do a lot more to disrupt the weather, than man can in many years.

The worrisome part was them talking about how much of our produce comes from California, and that without water, it could get mighty expensive for vegetables. Their was speculation that part of the reason for Jade Helm, was to have equipment in place to deal with possible upcoming food riots as food gets more expensive. Then they tried to sell you book on aquaponics, where you combine aquariums growing fish, covered with beds to grow vegetables. Not a bad idea really. And you get a pretty good return on your investment. But that's something you can check into on your own, there is a lot of info available for free, you don't need to buy a book on it. And perhaps we will find other sources for reasonably priced produce in the Islands or in South America or something.
Maybe produce production will move to the south central US. Another problem is as California dries up, the population will begin moving to other states that have water. Bringing their liberal policies and gangs with them. I've seen what they did in Colorado, and it wasn't pretty. I think they are a big reason that Colorado started down the gun-control path. What used to be a fairly conservative state is getting more liberal every year. Texas is another State they are eyeing. Right now they are pumping out the groundwater, from CA aquifers that took centuries to fill up, and will be pumped dry in a few years.

I just thought perhaps I'd warn people about what the drought may do to the prices of produce. Those that enjoy gardening might want to start growing bigger plots and canning or freezing the extra they grow, for those vegetables that can be processed those ways.
MAKE SURE YOU USE HEIRLOOM (NON-HYBRID) SEEDS, so you can get seeds from what you grow. Hybrids don't produce good seeds.
Not much can be done with lettuce and leafy vegetables, so you may want to make an indoor plot to grow lettuce if you want.
Or possibly make a greenhouse out of pvc plastic and some heavy duty translucent plastic film.
Maybe combine it with a fish tank to provide some protein. You can buy all sorts of game fish from fish farms to stock your tank with your favorite fish(es). Around here they sell various varieties of bass, crappie, some hybrids, bluegill/sunfish, and catfish. The plant roots are fertilized by the fish waste, help keep the water clean, and provide food for the fish. Although I imagine you have to feed the fish some kind of fish food too. Maybe throw a bucket of minnows in here and there. I'd just as soon grow things in the house, rather than advertise the fact that I may have food, in case things turn ugly.

There was also some stuff about food riots being a reason for declaring a National Emergency and letting Barry hang around a few more years. I don't know about all that, but it may be something to keep an eye on.

I'm not trying to alarm anyone, just to point out something that may become another problem in the near future, while we can do something about it, and not get caught off guard.
Strange that the left coast, with all the evil and godlessness, the porn, the so called music, the warped TV shows and Movies, that come from there, is not being blessed with rain. The Bible mentions it not raining on certain people during certain times.

I've always wondered why as a matter of National Security we haven't built a network of pipelines the same way we built the interstate highway system to pump water from and to anywhere it's needed in the country....California is always having droughts or floods depending on the year and there is always someplace that has way too much water such as South Carolina last month that would love to pump it to someplace that is begging for water....Yes it would be expensive but I think it would benefit everyone in the country at one time or another.....

As for "Global Warming" the latest whack job theory I heard is that raking leaves is causing a big issue because after they are taken to a landfill and buried they produce methane gas which is harming the ozone layer and is a big cause of climate change....What a croc of chit....

Amazing!! I've been advocating within my social circle (about 10 people) for years that we should build large canals flowing East to West dropping off water in midwest drought states that produce agriculture and on to enlarge the Colorado system taking care of LA & South (stopping water from there going north) and running it through large tunnels or aqueducts / pumping over the Sierras filling the mountain lakes and into underground aquifers. All you have to do is look at Mars to see what they did as their planet needed water redistribution. It's the old story of we have enough rainfall over the nation just not in the right places.

As for survival gardening, it's a real thing if you can keep it up. I'm surprised there's not more mention of small plot farming (say 3 acre) mechanization. Thar's too much for 2 middle aged people but could be tended through technology.

I was in California over the summer and it was really bad. I think they should work on desalinization of ocean water.

Did you know the South Pole (Antartica) was actually growing ice right now? How can that happen if there was global warming?

I used to work at our International Airport MSP, we had to re number our Runways from 11L and 29R to 12L and 30R because we were told the earth had moved 1 degree on it's axis. I would have to beleave this HAS TO IMPACT weather patterns. I would think 1 little degree is huge from the north pole to the south pole. My simple mind would say the winds still blow in same jet streams, but now across different areas. Aircraft were missing the runways on instrument landings. This happened about 20 years ago.

The North pole seems to be warming up, while the South is cooling, The warmer air in the artic is allowing the rain clouds to go north of Washington and dip back down over the Midwest. I guess that is why we've had such cold winters in the Midwest and eastern states. Might have something to do with the wobble of the earth as it rotates. There is a 7 year wobble in earths rotation that maybe has the artic pointing more towards the sun and warming it. Just a guess. With the ocean right there desalination plants would seem to be a good idea. They could probably make some solar contraption that would distill large amounts of water, and put a bunch of them to work. Crazy Californians would probably ***** about it ugly-ing up the coast.
I just pray the western slopes of the Rockies get a boatload of snow this year and send a bunch of ice melt towards CA.

We have extensive waterways all over the West to move water around. They were built in the early 20th century after one of the heaviest centuries of snowfall in the Rocky and Sierra Nevada ranges. That water feeds crops in Nevada deserts, goes into the central valley of California. We also move an enormous amount of water in Colorado - which I once heard referred to as the biggest public assistance state of all.

Most of the west coast is a desert. Irrigation only solves crop problems so long before the salinity buildup from moving groundwater becomes too much for the soil. (If that doesn't sound too scientific to be a big lie.) Expecting to grow crops in the desert indefinitely is the problem, not a lack of canals. Rain is the best source of water for farmland.

Much of the farmland in the midwest is sitting fallow on government subsidy. Using that would probably be a better use of resources in case of a food shortage.
