From 1964 through 1968 Donald Trump received four college draft deferments during the Vietnam War and upon graduation received a fifth deferment for a "bone spur" in his heal. He never served in the military and then had the nerve to say that "he liked military heroes who didn't get shot down" in reference to John McCain. Trump is a "chicken hawk" totally unworthy of the title of Commander-in-Chief.

Neither Ted nor Marco were of military age when we had a draft. They didn't dodge a damn thing. I was of draft age, but didn't wait to be drafted. I felt that it was and honor and a privilege to serve my country. Trump could have served but chose not to serve and did so by dodging the draft. That's a fact, Jack.Originally posted by Scarywoody View PostNone of the ones left on either side served the military. All are dodgers on some level. While I'm proud to be a veteran I find it difficult to judge someone else of the Vietnam era who isn't.
I know LBJ, our worst President ever up until the current one, told us we were fighting there "to stop the spread of Communism". How did that work out? 50 years later we have a closet commie occupying the White House and another running openly as one to be the next occupant.
So who were the dummies? Only each individual knows if the reason they didn't serve was honorable or not.

Referring to McCain, Trumps inferred position is that a hero is someone that does extraordinary things under extraordinary circumstance, not someone who sits in a prison camp, for however many years it may have been.Originally posted by muggsy View PostFrom 1964 through 1968 Donald Trump received four college draft deferments during the Vietnam War and upon graduation received a fifth deferment for a "bone spur" in his heal. We like to think of all of our service men and women as heros. I like to think of them more as patriots. The man who covers his fallen buddy, the soldier who runs through enemy fire to get ammo, the Pfc who sneaks up a hill with hell breaking inches over his head in order to get behind the enemy. Heros (and patriots). The guy who peeled potatoes for 200 grunts every night, might be something, but hero is ain't. The guy who's job it was to log the sparkplug supply... the guy who sat in prison, wounded or not... good men, fine men, even outstanding men. True patriots all. Heros? A true hero is one whose actions make direct, and immediate, life or death impact on their fellow soldier.
(from an RT article, 8/12/15)
John McCain flew ground-attack aircraft from carriers in the US Navy. He was shot down over North Vietnam in 1967 and spent the next six years as a prisoner of the Vietnamese, whom he alleged tortured him. His mission when he was shot down was the bombing of a light bulb factory, a civilian target prohibited under international law. This means that rather than a “war hero” John McCain is in fact a “war criminal.”
No disrespect meant to anyone who is serving or has served.
Tens of thousands used college or minor physical defect to avoid the draft. That war was very poorly executed, and particularly unfavorably thought of.... Trump isn't alone with avoiding it. I know one guy... omg... he's married to a sister of mine.... he had five deferrals, and used that time to gain so much weight he was unfit. "King of Pizza and Peirogi".. that was him.
Muggs... while I wish you a speedy and full recovery... I do hope you're just needing your meds regulated a bit. You've been particularly unglued as of late.
One last thing... draft DODGING is when one chooses to not participate in the draft policies of their country. Trump did participate in those policies. The policies gave deferments and exceptions, which he utilized. Therefore, within policy, and not a dodger.

CJB,
Thank you for your concern. Stage three lung cancer is treatable, but it isn't cure able. It will eventually kill me if something else doesn't kill me first. I handled the chemo and radiation treatments with very little problems and I'm doing very well for someone who was very close to death last July from a severe lung infection. I've gained back twenty of the fifty pounds that I lost and I'm feeling just fine. I'm currently on a break from treatment and won't see the oncologist again until April 15th. I'm looking forward to playing golf and going fishing as soon as the weather warms. I'm of sound mind, if not body, and really I'm looking forward to voting for Cruz in the Ohio primary and the national election. I'm not coming unglued, not even close. I'm just a passionate conservative who loves his country. Don't take me too seriously. I don't.

John Kerry served and received three purple hearts. When he returned from the war he protested it and disparaged his fellow soldiers in front of congress and pretended to throw his medals over the White House fence. In WWII you only received a purple heart if you were hospitalized. You didn't get one for a scratch. My best friend Jack received a Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He left a leg and an eye in Vietnam. His tank was hit by an RPG and he was blown off of it. Though badly wounded, Jack kept the enemy from over running his tank and save the lives of his fellow tank crew members. Jack wasn't drafted. He volunteer to serve. Which man would you call a hero, John? In my opinion, John Kerry was and is a cowardly, self-serving, traitor and a disgrace to the uniform.Originally posted by JohnR View PostJohn Kerry served.
So maybe it's a shallow and pointless way to judge a man.Last edited by muggsy; 03-06-2016, 05:16 AM.Never trust anyone who doesn't trust you to own a gun.
