This guy just finish an extensive 380 short barrel test and move to 9mm SB. CD 135 was his first candidate.

K40 Covert. Speer GDHP 165 gr. Why? It functions well and is accurate enough for its intended use. The .40 in a 3.5" barrel can be a handfull but the GDHP isn't so hot that I can't get a good follow up shot.
Honestly, I think that when it comes to searching for the ultimate SD load for a given caliber that we inevitably come to a point where we're splitting hairs. That isn't to say that it's not worth doing our homework when it comes to selecting a round. To the contrary, doing the research and choosing a load is the responsible thing to do. But, I believe that any of the aforementioned loads in this thread will perform consistently. The problem, is that we really have no idea what a bullet will do when it enters a target. There are too many variables. Clothing, bone, the angle of the shot.
So the advice that I was given a long time ago was to choose a round that is reliable and accurate from a reputable manufacturer and go with it and stay away from the exotic, whizbang over priced fodder. So, I choose Speer GDHP in .40. I tend to stay on top of the new products coming to the market which means I have the information I need to adjust my chosen round accordingly.
