Wal Mart: Federal Versus WWB

Was at Wal Mart yesterday looking for range fodder. I saw that purchasing two 50 round boxes of Federal Champion .45 ammo was $2 cheaper than a 100 round box of WWB. I've never really noticed the Federal .45 before and have always purchased the WWB.

If I purchase 9MM or 40 S&W ammo from Wal Mart I always go for the Federal Champion over the WWB due to price. Anybody have experience, good or bad, with the Federal Champion .45?

Personally, I have never had a problem with Federal ammo purchased at Walmart with any gun in any caliber including my CM9. Some say it is a "light load." I have not found that to be the case. Federal at Walmart is my normal range round. Look around because they have a 100 round value pack for a couple dollars less than 2 50 round boxes.

Yeah, I just get whatever is the cheapest (and of course in stock). Not much difference between the two, I just stay away from the Remington stuff.

Federal on left, Remington on right... seems to short and stubby to feed well so I just bypass it. Granted, it was never a problem in my Kahr, just my CZ but I grew used to not buying it.

There was a recall on the Federal .45 earlier this year. Google for LOT numbers.

Federal vs WWB

Can't speak to .45, but I bought 4 boxes of Federal 9mm the other day. Son and I shot nearly all of it in my CM9 and his Glock (yeah, he's one of those) and they do fine. However when we got home and stripped both down to clean we both remarked at the level of crud. We're ususal WWB shooters. We sat last night with a couple of cold beverages and ran brushes and patches for a very long time until we deemed them both clean enough to reload and holster. While it was nice one on one time with my kid and the guns, it was markedly dirtier than our usual WWB.

YMMV but that's my story and i am sticking to it.

I like Federal Red Box better than WWB - Because it is cleaner

Shot Federal AND WWB countless times in my PM9 with no issues at all. Would expect the same performance with the .45 and Kahr.

On a similar note, I was having feeding issues with an old .22 and a gunsmith recommended I stay away from the bulk type of ammo due to more typical problems. I wonder if the 100 ct. WWB in .45 or 9mm would give any problems?

Our metro Detroit Walmarts aren't priced as low as what some others report in their States. Quantities on hand are usually poor too.

I buy 500 at a time, sometimes for two or three calibers, via online sources like Cheaper Than Dirt, Natchez and places that cater to LEOs (not that I'm one.). I get EXACTLY what I want and thats hard to do locally.

It is the same round only packaged differently. Therefore, I can't see the 100 round box making a difference at all. However, there are some manufacturers who make a cheaper product for bulk packaging. Especially in 22lr.

I have not problems with the Federal, but I really dislike Remington ammo.

I dislike the remington stuff too. I just find it to be real dirty.

I went to WM today and bought one 100 round box of WWB and two 50 round boxes of Federal. I guess I got it half right.

When it comes to 9mm I've put WWB, Federal, Rem, Blazer, Blazer Brass and several foreign brands through my CW9 with no issues at all. I'm guessing .45 isn't gonna be any different. Some may be dirtier than others but that's not a big deal if you clean after the range time.
