Well, that depends on where you live doesn't it? I have an outdoor range less than 5 miles from my house, one about 30 min away plus three indoor ranges that take about 15 minutes to get to.

I'd be willing to bet that there are also a few indoor ranges in Austin.

Sure wish I had that many that close. I have one closer but they are only open on Friday evenings for 3 hours. Then the one in north Austin is the second closest one.

Both Reds Gun's ranges are indoors. They're open 9 to 9 daily. Be prepared to wait a few minutes. They get really busy at times. Also, consider double hearing protection, just in case someone is sighting in their .300 win mag. It gets loud in there; sometimes uncomfortably so. There is also a nice outdoor range called Lonestar Gun Range in Lockhart, TX about 20-30 minutes from the airport. Lockhart also has some awesome Texas BBQ!!! I like Smittys. Welcome to Austin! Lots of things to do; and amazingly the hippies and the rednecks somehow get along.

Anything unique about Texas law I should know to keep me out of trouble?
Also, any decent public ranges in the Austin area? Trying to get my daughter to consider a CCW.
            Thanks
Weirdest thing. Plenty of signs reading : $10,000 fine for having an unlicensed firearm in this facility.
No s*** Sherlock. What is the purpose of this ? Of course carrying an
a weapon with no CCW permit is serious. What the heck.
            Otherwise Austin is terrific.

I like to go to Eagle Peak, which is located in the northwest part of the Austin area. It is actually in Jonestown, which is very near Cedar Park and Leander. It is just off of Highway 1431. They have ranges for pistols, rifles and shotguns. They make all "newbies" pay a one-time fee of $10.00 (last 'til you die) and make you watch a 6 minute safety video. The fee for shooting is $10.00 for all day! They will not take credit/debit cards, the accept only a check or cash.

Texas law does recognize a Florida carry permit, as long as the person is legal resident of Florida.

Rufus, Eagle Peak is my regular range, blv it's actually in Leader tho Jonestown is nearby (I live in Lago Vista), it's $20 for a lifetime membership (just got one for my wife last month) and $10 a day ... we didn't have to watch a safety video, btw ... great place, nice folks and cheeeeeep ...

I'd love to shoot your Glock ... just hang it up there with the rest of the targets ... anon.

I have only see "correct to the letter of the law" 30.06 postings at Hospitals, Courthouses and at a "Jareds" jewlery store since I have had my CHL.
My doctors office has a notice that they forbid handguns in their building but it is laughably incorrectly worded. That said I don't carry in there, I just feel that the way-off of 30.06 posting means they could not enforce if I did.
Texas is much like Florida, just check on the law and bring some common sense.
                  Enjoy your visit to Texas.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                  "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
                  "more stuff than you are"
                  God Bless our Troups!

Is this an indoor or outdoor range? I live in Circle C in South Austin? Current I visit Reds and that place sucks!

Hey 7shot ... Eagle Peak is outdoors ... been to both Reds (got my original CHL in a class there), I don't like indoor ranges. If you want to try it and want some company, drop me a note and maybe we can meet there ... was there last about two weeks ago, great place if it's not 110 ...
