Same ammo - different result??

Just got a P380 last week and took it to the range straight from the box with no clean or lube. Shot great with one failure to feed in 50 rounds. Took it home and cleaned thoroughly. Went back to range today using same ammo and had failures to feed on every magazine. Out of 50 rounds probably had FTF 10 times. Maybe I shouldn't have cleaned it .

BTW - first mag I shot was my carry ammo -- Buffalo Bore 80gr +P JHP and it shot flawlessly. Then went to practice ammo and nothing but problems. I feel good that the Buff Bore shot well, but that is pretty expensive to put a few hundred rounds down range to test reliability.

My practice ammo is reload from Freedom Munitions. My question is why would first 50 rounds be relatively problem free and a week later with same ammo I get crap for results?

Well Kahr doesn't recommend reloads. I probably would continue the break in with factory brass if for no other reason than to eliminate that variable. You can return to the reloads later.

But to your question. I can only speak from my limited experience. You can over clean, under lube and even over lube a Kahr pistol. Clean only what is dirty with a q-tip and patches. Then lube carefully per the diagram.

I was using grease on my MK slide rails and the gun had some failures. Went back to a light oil and everything was fine. Just an example.

Crappy ammo, crappy results. Blazer Brass, or PMC Bronze is relatively inexpensive ball ammo that usually works well for break-in.

Really?? Direct me to some of this "inexpensive" ammo. I don't consider $1 a round to be inexpensive.

my p380 like the magtech 380 auto. I think the last box I bought was $16.99 for 50 rounds

To shot any new gun with out a complete cleaning and lube job , the mag too shows you also don't care about your firearm. To much trash can be found in the chamber and bore when new along with some minor amount of grit from anything including machining. Shamefull.

Maybe it depends on where you live. Muggs and I are in Ohio and can buy 380 Blazer Brass for less than 50 cents per round. I'd like to run across some of that 16.99 stuff though. Seems we're not that blessed.

You know what, I didn't post here to be chastised and rebuked. I just asked a simple question of why it performs ok one day and not the next. BTW - my results would seem to make your argument moot. The gun performed well except for one single FTF right out of the box. After cleaning and lubing (per the manual), it refused to get through a single mag without a FTF.

I would have thought that you would have cleaned and lubed before shooting...............it's what I and many others would have done. I guess, sometimes, when you don't follow instructions, bad things happen to good people. I would think that you would have more respect for your firearms. Your not being chastised, your question is being answered, there's a difference.

dbp, I think it's hard to interpret this as any other way but aggressive on your part, hence some of the responses you got after. Everybody should know by now it's hard to gauge attitude with the written word cause this internet thing has been around awhile now. Try to take the initial poking in good fun and eventually somebody will answer your question with some helpful info. Welcome to the forum and don't give up yet.

for me it is about 50/50. My cm9 went right from the lgs to range and has been perfect. My p380 I brought home and did the proper prep. It is back with kahr. My last ruger I prepped . The one before that went straight to the range. Now all my guns get a good cleaning and lube when I get them home from the range.

So the only variable is the cleaning right? Have you cleaned it again making sure you lube all the places from the diagram but not too much? It's also possible that something could have broken so it would be a good time for a thorough inspection. If you find something that looks off, let us know. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. But hang with us. We want you to be happy. Maybe you just need to shoot the crap out of it. That's what the manual says. To paraphrase: don't worry about performance problems until you get at least 200 rounds through the barrel.
