When I was married I kept a cheap Black&Decker laser leveller at my bedside. The plan was - in the event of an intruder - to turn it on and lob it to my wife's nightstand: allowing her to draw fire while I crawled under the bed...

Glasses first, cell phone into the PJ pocket Tac light in the left and a Rossi 38 J frame with a three inch barrel in the right. Like has been said it's just the two of us anymore so I don't have to go but to the bedroom door frame. Once the wife is awake enough, she will start riding shotgun... as in 11-87. I sit here next to five flats of 12gage trap loads. Yeah, it's birdshot, but it's ALOT of birdshot.

Now that said, the last time I acutally had a noise make me jump up at 2:30am I reached into the hidey hole and my hand drifted instead to my pocket carry P380 and it's trijicons. Turned out my issue was a neighbors kid, drunk and his two plastered buddys trying to unload a couch from a pick-up at the end of my driveway. Noisy and annoying, but harmless. Guess I showed I prefer night sights for my house gun...
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
        "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
        "more stuff than you are"
        God Bless our Troups!

I'd hate to be the poor SOB that tried to break into any of our houses.

Remington 870 12 gauge with 4 in the tube, nothing chambered under the bed and my cw9, 7 in the mag nothing in the chamber, in my night stand, I am nervous about keeping something in the chamber mostly because i am a college student and am slightly worried about a roomate snooping in my room and making a mistake

I keep a Rossi pump rifle in 22 mag by the bed. Where I live the things that go bump in the night tend to be raccoons, opossum and coyotes.

                  Oh, too much information?

Is it wrong for me to say I'd hide under her nightie too?

My pistols lie on towels in a nightstand drawer that I can reach while still laying on my bed. I'd go for my J-frame first because of it's pointability. If 5 rounds of 38 spl don't do it, I have 2 NY reloads by grabbing my CM9 and my TCP, plus extra loaded mags for both.

I am thinking seriously, though, about getting a home defense shotgun. I am looking at this Weatherby in 20 guage.

                      Very interesting...

I have a Remington 870 18" barrel, extended magazine, mounted sure fire in the corner. My Glock 17 lives beside the bed with another Surefire right next to it. Or my 300 Blackout AR is usually very close as well.
All with loaded magazines and one in the chamber.

If it's anything like my two, you won't be home when it happens.

The subject of this thread presents me with a dilemma that I haven't been able to solve. As most of you know I have had two burglaries over the last year and a half in which 15 hand guns were stolen. In both cases the guns were replaced in fairly short order where possible. That's the source of the dilemma. I have a gun safe that weighs about 1000 pounds and is bolted to a concrete floor. That baby ain't going anywhere, and it contains jewelry, house deeds, vehicle titles, a laptop, cash, other important papers, and, of course, guns. The house also has a high-tech wireless security system and motion sensors with floodlights outside.

The problem is that the weapons in the safe are not readily available for home defense use. Therefore, the HD guns, no matter how well hidden, are not protected. Ideally, a HD gun should be one or more, three in my case, of the best shooters I have, but in most cases these are the most valuable and the ones I don't want to lose [again]. Right now I have an HK USP 40 with n/s, an excellent pistol but since I bought it used, not a lot invested; an LCP, not a favorite caliber and a gift; and the CW40, somewhat redundant since I got the CW45, out of the safe for defense. They are well hidden but accessible, but so were some that were stolen. I don't really want three small safes, because they are not always that accessible either, and may be subject to being stolen themselves.

I share that dilemma. I never put my carry guns in the safe since they always go with me but I do have a night stand gun that I generally leave out.

My biggest drop my guard is whittling grips in my man cave and rather than put the models in the safe every trip I leave them on the bench, usually under a rag which isn't much security.

I tend to do the same with whatever long gun I happen to be giving special treatment at the time.

For a long time I tried to lock up based on value, monetary or sentimental, that didn't work too good either. The ones I want to fondle the most are locked up so they get left out.

I don't know what the answer is rather than make the whole man cave a big vault. Course after the boating accident everything is irrelevant anyhow I guess. Sad day.................
