Just got my CW45. So sweet in the hand. Haven’t shot it yet but wanted to take it down and clean it well. WOW, it is not an easy task to field strip this gun. The slide has to come back so far and there was no way to hold it while pushing the pin out. I have two Beretta’s and take down is so easy. I’m 70 years old and haven’t got the strength to hold that slide back. Anyone have similar problems; Any help would be welcomed.
    Thanks guys

I own Beretta's myself..............shooting it will loosen it up, but they stay tight for a while. Doing it is the only way to get the hang of it.

The slide only needs to come back to the witness mark or until the notch in the side lines up with the back of the slide lock lever.

I put my thumb through the trigger guard so my fingers are over the slide and pull with my right hand until the marks line up. It is a bit of a challenge and my hands aren't what they used to be either.

Some make a little wedge to put in the ejection port to hold it while you manipulate the pin out. A chop stick (how do people eat with those things?) works well. A small dowel, something with a tapered end so you can adjust as needed.

Like Beretta said, after you do it a few times and shoot it some it will get a bit easier.

You'll probably need something to start that takedown lever out at first also, a screwdriver handle or even a little tap with a soft face hammer.

I sometimes use a popsicle stick, it's just hard enough that finger alone sometimes isn't enough. This of course also adds to the challenge of holding everything in line while you try to push the pin at the same time.

here`s a picture of holding the slide, a bit fuzzy and it slipped a little so the marks aren`t lined up.2014-03-08_12-54-38_626.jpg

hope that helps a little.(obviously, with your finger there, make sure it`s not loaded)

Try outting the mag in. Pull the slide back as you are pushing on the slide stop. When the slide stop pops out remove the empty mag then finish pulling out the slide stop. You will still have to keep pulling back on the slide to keep pressure off the slide stop. When reassembling & you have the slide on pull back on the slide to cock the striker. Then put the slide stop in as you pull back on the slide to line things the stop will push right in. By cocking the striker you are taking some tension off to make it easier.

I used chopsticks the first time I took mine down. I put them in the ejection port. The slight taper let me get the proper alignment with the witness mark.

One of the guys with a similar problem used a tapered chop stick inserted through the ejection port to hold the slide in position once the marks were aligned. Then he was free to remove the slide stop with both hands. You might give something similar a try.

thanks for all the suggestions. The chopstick thing is interesting but I can’t get a good mental image as to where you put it to hold the slide back. Seems likea chopstick would break under the pressure from the spring

I put my right hand thumb in the curve at the top of the grip with my hand and fingers over the top of the slide pulling the slide back to the proper marks. Then with your left hand tap the end of the slide lock with the end of a screwdriver. After some practice you will get better. Also, the slide lock will eventually loosen up the more you do it.

                        I have a CW380, but I figured a Glock 19 is closer in size to a CW45.
Here is how I take down my Kahrs and Glocks.

Yep! that's how I hold my CM9 and PM9 while pushing out the pin with the other hand.

The chop stick is inserted from the top through the ejection port and into the magazine well. Our friend had degenerative nerve disease. If he could do it you can do it. It's a piece of cake. Enjoy your new gun. Let us know if you run into any other problems.
