  • CW45 broken trigger mechanism: Why no free return shipping?

I had one of the CW45s with the short frame rail issue which required a frame replacement. In dealing with that issue, Kahr paid for the shipping to and from the factory.

Now the trigger bar is broken. The tab at the rear of the trigger bar which contacts and actuates the cocking cam broke off. Yes, it's a bummer but stuff happens. Things break when you use them. I called Kahr monday morning and they gave me an RA#. I asked about shipping, and the rep said Kahr only covers return shipping. Sure enough, nothing in the Kahr warranty statement says anything about free shipping.

My question is: why would Kahr cover shipping for one warranty related issue but not another? When the frame was bad, I dealt with the guy with the non-American accent (Ian?). This time with the trigger problem I spoke with a different guy. Is it just the prerogative of the rep? Should I have pushed the issue since shipping is not cheap?

I just don't understand the inconsistent service. Anyone have insight?

Every trip on mine has been covered both ways. Three on the CW45 before the short frame rails were fixed. You should call again and ask what's up.
Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those that don't.

I agree it should be covered especially if you just had the frame replaced.

The short rail was a manufacturing defect, one that they recognized and decided they would fix. The right thing to do.

I'd call again and make sure they understand you just got a new frame and be clear. If all else fails I'd have your local dealer ship it for you since they can ship it cheaper than an individual.

Liability. Any defect that leaves the firearm operable but perhaps unsafe....they jump on return shipping. If the firearm is unoperable... no liability? Just sayin. I dont think they would cover cosmetics... bad serrations say... with free shipping either.

Did not cover return shipping for mine. (short rail issue) Did, however, throw in some extras-another magazine, polished the barrel, trigger, slide stop and eject button. In their defense, maybe if I had made more of an issue of it prior to shipping it would have been different. BTW--runs perfectly now.

if you got shipping for sending your CW45 in for a new frame to correct the Kahr problem of selling defectively made guns(the to short front rails, which should be a recall but isn't)-- you got lucky and talked to somebody at Kahr who didn't know the program. should have remembered the name and try to get lucky twice.
your lgs/ffl can ship via the USPS for cheaper than you taking it to FedEx or UPS. you can pull the trigger like Jerry Miculek? should we call you "machineguntony"?
good luck, get it fixed, good shooting. (why can't Kahr just send you a trigger bar to replace the broken one? hell, just buy one, watch the videos and put the new bar in the gun).

Yeah I'd call again, I would assume they let their CS handle it and maybe they get kudo's for making the customer eat shipping?? Again its solely up to the person on the other end and as Bawanna said its a trigger related problem which in turn is part of the frame they sent you...Unless they took out the internals and swapped them, even then its their baby...

I really like my Kahrs but the whole idea of their return shipping policy sucks for lack of a better term

Part of the appeal of the CW series is the great pricing. Having to add 50 to 70 dollars to ship it back (if you can't get a FFL to do it for you) because of a factory defect is asinine.

Not to mention they KNOW about all the issues with that run of the CW45s and leave it up to the owner to find out their firearm is defective

I sampled 4 CW45s at an LGS and they all failed the Greg test

Again I really like Kahrs as long as you never need any warranty work done ever

one time I owned some stock in a restaurant chain, Steak&Shake (midwest burger joint like a Culver's). I was reading the message board for that stock and somebody got on there and complained about the service and condition of one of the stores. within hours a regional manager had read the thread and the store was being fixed. the original poster got a big book of free coupons. all was well. as a stockholder I was impressed with that company.
do you think any of the folks at Kahr read kahrtalk.com or give a crap about the company or customers. what did they do before they got the job at Kahr, write sub-prime mortgages?
just for grins I went over to Glocktalk.com and asked about warranty and service. after they all got done laughing, they politely explained it's lifetime, all the time and no bs. guess the folks at Glock belive that "perfection" thing. geez, you even hear good things about Hi-Point service.

My 6 week old CW380 has intermittent return to battery failures. I asked for a prepaid label and Kahr sent it promptly.

I know it's a different company but, when dealing with my many Taurus issues I would keep calling CS until I got the answer I wanted.
Sometimes it was the first call, most times it was the second or third or even fifth time.

I spoke with Gino. Evidently he's one of the gunsmiths but he answered the phone twice when I called. He even called me back to make sure I got the label.

That's not always the case with Ruger as I had to have my local shop ship a Bearcat back when they wouldn't issue a return label.
S&W charges return shipping if they determine it's not a warranty issue. As far as their lifetime guarantee goes, I had a Model 36 that they said the couldn't repair (warranty issue), their solution was to offer me a discount on a new Model 36.
Still, S&W and Ruger are pretty good. SA CS is top shelf. The same can be said for USFA, RIA, and DB (at least in my experience dealing with them).
I do wish Kahr was more consistent with their return label policy. At the very least, they might offer the customer a label at their cost or send a label then, if it's not a warranty issue, recoup the cost. I'd also like to see them automate the process: customer fills out an online form, CS reviews it, then contacts the customer (email or phone) with disposition instructions.
                              Regards,
                              Greg
