I love my 3" SP101 .357 mag and my CW9 .... so much I started reloading .357 as of today. Still have all my fingers and a perfectly functional SP101

My wife has a 3" SP101 for personal protection. Great gun, but its trigger did take some getting used to for me. I'm not normally a wheelgun person, but the Ruger really caught my eye. I may have to get one for myself one of these days.

    BTW, nice strip photos.

NICE PIC! Looks like a blown up parts diagram. Is it ok to get the brake cleaner on the polymer gun body??? thats how I clean the inside out with some spray then re-oiled after it dried making sure the trigger got a drop on each side.

MWS ... if you get the chance, pop me a link to the detail takedown on the trigger group. You may have already and I overlooked it - I'll go back and re-read for it.

tconroy ... if you're concerned with any solvent affectinf the Ruger grip, just take out the grip panel screw, pop off the panels, and slide the rubber grip off the frame. Just don't loose your spring retainer "take down" pin that's nested in the grip.

ms - don't have a link in mind at present (a mind is a terrible thing to loose). there was an old link to an IBOK that I downloaded last year. you may be able to google it up. You might find something on the Ruger forum(s)

+1 on the "take down pin". I have mine in the box. Change grips from the originals, my replacement panels or the hogues quite frequently. BTW, you can use a straightened out paper clip, brad nail or just about anything but wire solder as a take down pin for the spring retainer.

mrtoad - just start shooting the SP101 more, then you'll know why we like it so much.

The original intent of this thread has gotten waaay off track! Has the OP ever replied? I can't remember if he did, been so many posts ago!

Maybe it's a dementia issue and he makes an inquiry and then forgets where and what he asked so he can't come back and find the answer or the question for that matter.

FWIW- Forgot Where I Was comes to mind.

surv - you are welcome. BTW - the person that wrote the guide has come out with a revision and you can get them over at the Ruger Forum. Unfortunately, they reprinted the new version and sold out while I was out of the country. Now I've got to wait again.

I think he needs one of these targets. Sounds like he isnt even holding the gun. He needs a severe amount of practice. This is a Ruger SP 101 357 at 25ft. I have gotten a lot better since than.

No, Im talking about the polymer frame on my CW9 Kahr. I was wondering if the non-chlorinated brake cleaner will be OK to use on it. Just dont want it to melt or something like that.

not sure I follow you on the thing about getting brake cleaner on the polymer grip? If it makes you feel safer, just put the grip on another table while you detail clean the slide. What am I missing?
