A good thing to note is the tunnel to the right by the safety block slot. The SB has to be in position before you put the stuff back into the extractor tunnel, as there is a cutout on the back of the SB that's part of the tunnel when in place. That stuff has to be out of the way to get the SB out.

I checked the slide lock spring... loosened the screw and then tightened it. The whole thing can move. The screw and washer just keep the spring in place. On some of the guns, the washer holds it more in place.

I did get my carry ammo in... 165-grain Gold Dots. I picked that because it seemed to have the best performance overall in the 3 weights offered. Muzzle velocity 1150 fps and energy 486 ft-lbs. It also had the greatest maximum range.

I hope to go try this pretty soon and see how much flash it has, and how it works in my pistol and mags. I'm going to shoot a whole box. I got five from Kyle's:Item Speer Gold Dot .40 S&W 165gr LE 53970 (50 Rounds) # 53970
    Qty 5
    Price $ 27.99
    Shipping $12.14
Total $152.09 delivered to my door, no tax.

I really like this pistol... just needs an upgrade on the sights.

Well, I got to the range yesterday with the P40 and my 165-gr Gold Dots. I also took my P380 and put half a box of 90-gr Gold Dots through it. Got busy talking to my "neighbor" and showing him my Kahrs and then letting him try them. I started running out of time, but you've probably noticed that I like to talk, and had to "cut short" my range time. I still had errands to run and get back in time to feed Wifey.

Wow! The GD's are NOT low-flash in the P40... Magna-ported, or not! I had relatively small flashes from my 5" S&W 645, so I kind of expected the same from my P40... just more flash out the ports. There was still plenty for the muzzle, too!!

I notice the time is 3:36PM... handy. This is one of the wildest with unburned... or rather, burning pits of powder in the plumes.

Got the little doughnuts on some of the flashes.

I'll post this before I "lose" it and then do some of my guest's firing.

Looks like after the 3rd shot your watch quit all together. Could be a coincidence? Cool pics. Laser light show to be sure. Funny how you really don't see that even when your watching. It happens so fast that only the camera can catch it. Eye's not quick enough.

Nice 4th of July effects in the photos!

I trust the flash is less noticeable to the unaided eye?

Edited to add: Oops! I am too slow . . . again.

I'm 5'8" and weigh 180 lbs... my diabetes medicine makes me hypoglycemic a lot, and I compensate by feeding it all the sugary stuff I can cram in my pie-hole. I had no problem maintaining 165 lbs until my Doctor changed to the Glucovance... powerful stuff. See? It's not MY fault.

Anyhow, my guest is shorter and weighs a lot less... mid-20's and lean.

His grip leaves a lot to be desired and looks dangerous with the recoil of the .40... even Magna-ported! I got some different angles on his flashes because he was so far back from the station. I'll show a sequence of his stills. This is the 180-gr MFS/Fiocchi FMJ FN:

All of his shots were like that and I don't think he would have fired more than one shot without the porting! The blast was more noticeable to me standing to his left... very powerful!

His grip is actually excellent starting out, he's just losing it in recoil. Not holding on tight enough or something. He should actually get much less flip than you. His hands are much closer to the bore axis.

I see your making a physical compensation to keep your thumb away from the slide lock lever by holding it down with your weak hand. I'm some where between the two of you.
My weak hand isn't quite as far forward as his but the thumbs are still parallel and the weak thumb kind of traps the strong thumb.

Not saying right or wrong, I'm a firm believer in doing what works for you. If it works for you it's absolutely right.

You da man for sharing your toys with others even if he does have girly man hands.

As a matter of fact, I hadn't noticed the flashes until I was standing next to my guest! I DID see the flashes and feel the concussion... sounded and felt like a .44 magnum! I could also see the bullet leaving the barrel, too, watching, or shooting. That's easy to do when you're near the axis of the barrel. After watching him shoot, I noticed the flashes when I fired, too.

The guy wasn't using his left hand to hold the gun down at all and it looked like he would be hard pressed to recover for follow-up shots. My recoil rise was no more than a 9mm, though the noise and the flash are more intense!

He was a Glock-guy and really couldn't get used to the Kahr trigger in a short period and few shots.

I tried to explain about the Kahr-preferred charging of the pistol, but he didn't like to use the slide lock because it was rough.

Nice find Wyn! Let us know how you like the magna-porting. If it tames the barrel buck down a lot. I'm thinking about that for the CW40 and CW45.

I did have some persistent problems... Failure To Chamber. There must have been close to 10% FTC with the round cocked at about 45° in the chamber. I could easily clear it by pulling the slide back about 1/8" and letting it go. It would usually fully chamber on its own then, but once in a while I would give it a sharp push with my palm to get it into battery and be good to go.

I was using a worn buff wheel on the DLT and wonder if I did a better job with a new one, it would be less prone to FTC. Also, I'm thinking about getting another recoil spring... one from Wolff, if available. This gun doesn't have a high-round count... 10Kahrs said about 100 and I've put about 400 through it now.

I enjoy shooting the gun... it goes BOOM! and is very authoritative! I would love to CCW with it when I get it sorted out and reliable. Boomer is still my favorite Kahr, but this is definitely next! I can't really compare the Kahrs to my Champion 4".

I still need to figure out what I'm going to do about upgrading the sights, too... 3-dot Trijicons? Maybe with the Novak rear NS? Novak was out of P40 sights for 4-6 weeks and didn't answer me about putting a gold dot sight on the front and the Novak wide notched rear. I think that would quickly run up the cost, as those aren't swap-outs for the Kahr, requiring that expensive milling and installation! I bit the bullet on my Champion, but I really don't want to spend $300 on my P40....

I noticed the speer gold dots say short barrel ?? How do they work better with short barrel guns ? I have winchester pdx1 +p 124 now for my Cm9 ... Box says velocities at 1200 fps.. would the speer be better ?

The .40's aren't short barrel, at least not in the 165-gr version. They do make 180-gr short barrel GD's. Speer makes the GDs for the .40's in 155, 165, and 180-grains, but the SB only in 180 grain. I really don't want the 180's.

I guess I'll have to buy some .40 S&W Bonded Remington Golden Sabers to try. They make 165-gr and 180-gr bonded GS.

                            http://www.remingtonmilitary.com/Amm...volver/GS.aspx

I would like to see if they are lower in flash. So far, with my limited testing, the Winchester PDX1 in 165-grains get the nod for low flash... maybe 5% of what I saw coming out with the GD's! I wonder about Remington's Ultimate Home Defense Ammo:

A parting shot and then I need to address the "dining room"!

I just walked by the dining room! Unfinished business! Wifey will be home in less than 2 hours and I have a few neglected chores!

Here's a BIGGIE! (Below... I don't need this on Photobucket!)

I still have the bed to make... clothes to wash... the yard to mow, put down insecticide, and water that in. Can't do it all before then, but the dining table has to become just that!

                              Later!
