  • 9 MM ammo

Since Wal Mart has pulled all their 9mm ammo from the shelves I thought I'd better have an extra box on hand so I went to my local gun shop. All they had on hand was the Hornady Critical Defense 115 gr FTX, which I'm a little familiar with, and Fiocchi 124 gr JHP that comes from Fiocchi of American in Ozark, Arkansas.

I've never even heard of Fiocchi but since the store owner said if they didn't work in my Kahr to bring back the ones I hadn't shot, and they are made in America, I went ahead and bought one box along with a box of the Hornadys. Has anyone heard of or used this brand in their CM9/PM9s, assuming it may just be available in the Missouri/Arkansas/Oklahoma area?

I used most of my WWB and Federal from W M during my last visit to the range so hated to be too low on ammo for my CCW.

Guess I'm wrong on WM pulling their ammo from the shelves. I can't find where I read that and it looks like gun owners are emptying the shelves as fast as a shipment comes in, even getting advance information on shipments. Looks like a short supply for some time now.

Fiocchi has been around a very long time, since the late 1800s. I use to shoot a lot of their shotgun shells back in the day, which were a good product. I can't speak for their handgun cartridges though.

Why did Wal-Mart pull their 9mm ammunition? I figured Obama had just sold all of their stock and that was the reason for the bare shelves.

. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Are you sure it wasn't the customers that pulled the ammo off the shelves?

I just assumed WM had pulled it off their shelves since I'd read in another post of them doing this. Seems like that post said all 9mm, .45 caliber, and .223 ammo was gone from the shelves. I'll see if I can locate that post.

A lot of ammo is made by Fiocchi in Ozark, MO. I've bought Herters and MFS, as well, all good brass cases and made by Fiocchi. In some cases they don't even change the headstamps... all Fiocchi. I've shot a bunch of FMJ in all calibers... when it's the cheapest deal online. I don't reload anymore so I look carefully for the cheapest, best deals online... for good Blazer aluminum-cased or brass-cased... no steel. I did think about getting some of those "cans" of steel-cased ammo for long-term, emergency use.

I carry my CM9 with Critical Defense ammo, never have a problem, 6 and 7 rdns mags, they all work very well with this ammo.

I bought a full case of Remington UMC 9mm from Walmart, an hour ago. The clerk said it had just arrived and he was in the process of putting it on the shelf, when I walked up. Because it's so hard to find, I took the whole case.

Last Sunday, I bought 1300 rounds of WWB at Walmart. There is no indication Walmart is deleting ammo from their product line around here, however it sells as fast as they get it.

Walmart did increase prices on ammo this week. For instance, Federal Champion 100 round Value Pack in 9mm used to sell for $19.97. The new price is $21 and change.

Our Walmart, by the Aurora Mall, now called Town Center, has not had 9mm in 2 weeks, 22LR is gone, some 44 available.
They were actively marking up the price on all the ammo.
Even the stuff they were presently out of.

Our Walmart has not taken any ammo off the shelves. Your store manager is a moron or it is just in your area. I just bought 100 rounds of 9mm wwb a few days ago. They had plenty of ammo. Yes it usually is sold fast now though.
                      This place isn't safe.

I for one just don't understand the crazed ammo buying. The high capacity magazines I can understand, as well as the firearms that seem to be under assault, since those things could be hard to come by in the near future. But ammo? They aren't going to stop making ammo. I suppose they could tax it to death, and maybe that's what it's about, I don't know.

Maybe......... I went to the Super Walmart in Pinellas Park FL last week to buy some .40 target ammo. The only thing left on the shelf were two 100 round boxes of 165gr .40 for $27 each. I bought both. The shelves were now completely bare of all ammo.

The guy behind me was looking for 9mm and asked why the shelves were empty. He didn't believe the answer from the cashier behind the counter, until the manager walked by and said they were going to sell what they had and after 90 days take it all off the shelf and not order any more. Obviously it didn't take 90 days to get rid of it.

                          YMMV depending on your locale.

I've shot quite a bit of Fiocchi 124 grain JHP through my own PM9 with perfect results. It's my EDC carry round. YMMV through your particular gun, but it's not a dog by any means.
