I've never even heard of Fiocchi

I have some Fiocchi hollow-points in my CM9 right now. No problems feeding and firing.

I never shop at WalMart, but I just stopped by the farm supply store at which I buy most of my ammo when I am back in the Midwest.

They literally had piles of 9mm Blazer Brass (which has worked well for me) available in 350-rd boxes for $79, which is $0.229 before tax. (This is the same product that Gander Mtn sells for $99 unless "on sale" for $89.) They also lots of .40 cal in the same brand, which was not of interest to me.

The conspicuously bare shelves were for .223/5.56 and .22LR. I can imagine why the first type has been cleaned out but am having a harder time understanding why .22LR has recently become scarce.

They aren't going to stop making ammo. I suppose they could tax it to death, and maybe that's what it's about, I don't know.

I think there are two issues at play here:

            1) The herd mentality. People are buying all-things-gun whether it makes sense or not.

            2) A lot of people just bought a lot of new guns. They're buying ammunition for it, which temporarily causes a shortage due to the surge. (They're also going to the ranges to try out all of their new guns - which is why the last time I went to the range they told me it was a two hour wait. I left...)

That's just one more reason that I'm proud to be a country boy. I can walk out in my back yard and shoot all I want, any time I want, with no wait. haha. You have a point though about folks needing ammo for their new guns, I guess that could be some of it. But then you have others that are just buying because it's in short supply.

Fiocchi is actually very good ammo and from my experience is very clean burning, which I can't always say about some more well known American ammo.
They use Hornady's XTP projectile in their HP ammo.

                      9mm Walmart report

During this last month, I've made several trips to 2 Walmarts in my area (Monterey Co., CA) and their.45acp, .40 and 9mm especially, have been in scarce supply due to higher than usual demand, but they're still stocking these calibers, but I was still able to buy several hundred rounds of WWB, Federal, and Remington in 100 rd. boxes. Each time it was the older store that had stuff in stock. Price didn't seem to have gone up noticeably either.
Now my LGS/pistol range had plenty of range ammo on hand. It was the guns that were in short supply, especially the assssault rifles! Me, I've got my old Ruger Mini-14 to rely on--it always works. Hey, so does my Kahr, Yeehah!

I've had no issues with any Fiocchi FMJ in any of my handguns, excellent ammo. Based on the trouble I had with their hollowpoints feeding in my P380, I haven't purchased or tried them in my PM9.

Double Tap makes a 90 gr round that cycles very well in my PM9 and performs very well ballistically.

                        YMMV

Montery County... Is Monterey located there? I had my first run-in with the law out there... test firing my new Rohm .22 pistol... purchased at age 18 and after a 5-day or whatever wait back in 1965. My buddy and I went up to the "forest" on top of the hill there and shot the heck out of that pistol into the dirt hill side of the road up there... country to me!

As we were going down the hill, we found a police officer and his patrol car stuck in a ditch. We stopped to help him and he asked if we were the ones shooting... yep. We helped him out of the ditch and he gave us some kind of citation or reported our misdeed to the Company Commander... no fine, but we were not allowed to leave the post for a month... the Presidio of Monterey... DLIWC... run by the Army.

On top of the hill like that, it was hard for the people to figure out where the sound was coming from, as it went in all directions.

That was back in the good old days... had to be 21 to drink, but could buy guns... even a pistol at age 18... in Commiefornia!!

Yes... just checked... Monterey County is a good portion of Mid-California. Another buddy and I went pig hunting once down in one of those National Forests in 1973... didn't see a pig, but my buddy and I saw ONE tiny deer about 50 yards away up the hill a bit. He shot at it... right next to my right ear... with his sporterized 8mm Mauser... complete miss, but deafened me and really pissed me off. I don't recall , but we weren't hunting deer!

                            3) A lot of the anti-gunners are also raising a cry about putting limits on the amount of ammo a person can buy or own in a given time period. So people are buying up as much ammo as they can find before restrictions are enacted.

21 to drink in 1965 in CA? Wow, that didn't get bumped up from 18 until the mid-1980s here. Of course the bootlegger we bought from when I was growing up never really cared how old we were. Haha. We use to ride our bicycles up to his convenience store, buy a 6 pack, and drink it on the way back. Couldn't have been much more than 12 or 13 at the time.

I went to high skrool in Natchez, MS, and we had to drive across the bridge to Vidalia where there was a C&G market. You just had to get money on the counter. I remember the special for a while was a half-bottle of Gallo Tokay wine for 25˘. We would get those and drive back to Natchez where we would go to the Dairy Queen and get a big cup of ice and a straw... for a nickel... just right! That was when you only had to have your draft registration card... 18 or 18 1/2.
