  • New PM45 Range Report

I picked up a new PM45 a couple of days ago and got a chance to put 200 rds of Blazer aluminum 230 gr FMJ thru it today.
The only issues were 2 slide locks on a half empty mag in the first 50 rds.
( Note to self: Keep thumb off slide release. )

I did bevel the stripper and file the notch while I had it stripped for the pre-fire cleaning.
I'm planning on another couple hundred break-in rds next week and then I'll try some some carry ammo in it.
It's much easier to shoot than my PM9. I think being able to get my pinky finger on it instead of hanging under the mag, like with the PM9, helps.
It looks like it might be a keeper.
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

Well this might be the straw that broke the camels back. I think in the morning I'm gonna order one up. Your saying that yours didn't have the bevel or the notch before you shot it and you did those things prior to the first range trip? I was kind of hoping for a runner right out of the box but I'm going for it anyhow I think.

Hey, Kahr is letting you participate in the manufacture and QC of your own gun... a little bonding. Those two things are easy to do. I did my K9, too. It didn't have the notch, but looked like there was some battering and some tiny "chunks" knocked out of the thin metal there. Maybe 12 years or so ago they hadn't figured out the need for the notch. At least we can fix those things.

Pics man pics...We are hopelessly addicted to gun porn and need to see some cold hard steel.

Congrats on your new gun. I will be hitting the gun show again this weekend looking for some diamonds in the rough.

Now I am understanding some of the enthusiasm for the PM45. It's actually 1/2" longer in grip while maintaining the 5 round mag capacity minimum of the PM series. Perhaps to maintain some magic ratio for balance, it is also 1/3" longer than a PM40.

All the 40s are about 1.33 length to height, and the 45s 1.26. That would mean the gun gets shorter all around as the caliber goes down, and it grows proportionally as the caliber increases. What is curious is the CW with its bit longer barrel and same round count, yet still the same dimension ratio as other 40s (1.38).

The CW45 is the exception with a ratio of 1.32 versus the 1.26 of the other 45s. It has a proportionally longer barrel, very close overall to the CW40.

I noted that while the same height, the P45 is 1/4" shorter in length than the CW45, getting the nod as theoretically more concealable.

This all leads back to why a gun like the Covert may have been dropped. All the remaining models have pretty constant ratios of barrel length to grip length within each caliber. Since I just bought a P40 Covert and don't yet have it in my possession, I am doubly curious how it will shoot and handle.

                Ditto.
Why is it that every time there is a shooting spree they want to take the guns away from the people that didn't do it? :59:

Ok, you guys are killing me in two different threads now......heh..
Can you guys give me a price check range for a PM45 DLC?

My PM9 DLC standard sights was marked on the tag by the dealer
at $849.00. This sounds like MSRP + shipping to the dealer.
They sold it to me for $699.00
which represents about an 18% discount off of list.
For the central Florida area and what I've seen prices of Kahrs
go for thats probably a decent price.

If I make some assumptions and apply the same math to the PM45
That would be something like $750.00 before taxes.

Does that sound about right? Too high? Too low?

                    Thanks!

Pretty close ball park. Buds shows their price for that even though they don't have one right now. I looked at the 661 stainless version and was ready to go but now find that they are moving again and things slow down till next week. Sooo, I'll ponder over the weekend, see if my cash stash survives the gun show and see what happens next week. As I recall the black DLC finish was between 750 and 8 but my memory has been lapsing lately. I think I'm going stainless IF I go.

                        PM45 Prices

                        Fellas,

I don't know where y'all been shopping, but just about six weeks ago I bought a new PM45 from a dealer in Merritt Island, Florida...B&H Guns and the price was $610.00 before sales tax and $5.00 bachground check fee. I think the total was around $663.00 out the door. This guys shop is usually a mad house on Saturdays and they close at 4:00 PM sharp. It was well worth the ride over from Lakeland, Florida to save about 200-250 dollars when you compare the other guys MSRP prices.
I beleive he is the largest dealer for Kahr in Florida and he has all the models stacked up on the counter like cord wood. I would call them ahaed of time to make sure they have the one you want in stock. By the way they also offer a discount for Law Enforcement and Emergency Responders on top of there excellent prices.

Thanks for the heads up on B&H. I've been meaning to check that place
out. I'm probably heading out to the Melbourne show to poke around a bit
tomorrow. B&H is on the way.

I'm about as far away from there as I can be and still be in country. Hope you see one, like it and buy it. That's a darn nice price and it might even be worth investigating to see if he'd ship me one at that price. I've decided I'm definitely gonna hold out till I at least hold one in my hand. We have a gun show this weekend also but we rarely see Kahrs of any flavor there.
I wish you luck and hope you bring one home, pics when you can.

I guess I was just lucky. My LGS had a preowned and unfired PM45 the same day I went in to look at one. $579 with both mags, manual and box. Of course, it had to take a 5 day trip back to Kahr to get the gap and notch things fixed, but while it was there they put in a new recoil assy, polished the ramp and test fired it, all for free. Other than the short vacation in Kahrland, it's been perfect.
