Up To What Distance Are You Accurate?

I watched the video that Jeep45238 posted and he's absolutely correct...it is not the gun, it's the shooter. Don't blame the gun. The Kahr PM is capable of better accuracy than I am capable of right now, and need to practice and learn how to shoot it more accurately, just as I must do any firearm. The combination of firearm + individual will yield specific limitations. This equates to needing to experiment in order to figure out what trigger pull techniques work best. We can ALL continue to improve in the accuracy department. For me, taking up the trigger pull to the point of release consistently; with a specific finger pad placement; practice with the CTL; etc...as stated above, works best. But I am still learning this PM40 and I am loving it more and more every day.

I never run the target down to the 25 yard mark anymore. I've been practicing in the 7-10 yard range. Next time I take my Kahrs out, I'll run a B-27 down to the the 25 yard mark and see how many out of 7 make it into the kill zone. I'm guessing not very many unless I use a rest of some sort. I start getting shaky after a few magazines, so will have to start with the 25 yard target first. I just hope I can keep the front sight in focus and even see the target at that range. I've been using a pair of non-prescription shooting glasses, since my regular glass don't let my eyes focus on the front sight very well. It's kind of strange, with my regular glasses, even with one eye shut, I often see 2 front sights. I guess it's too far for the bifocul part, and too close for the regular part of the lense. Now with my shooting glasses I can zero right in on the front sight with no problem, and can still see the target at 7-10 yards to hit it well. Cool, something to experiment with next time I go shooting. Back when I use to take my S&W model 629 6" .44 mag along, all I shot was at the 25 yard mark, practicing for game hunting. I did get a chance to shoot it at about 75 yards once, using a rest, and that .44 mag out shot my MAK-90 (AK-47 clone). Of course the AK-47 isn't known as a target rifle, but I was surprised. That was with iron sights, and much younger eyes. Oh, the rifle did shoot much closer to the bullseye, while the .44 shot was a couple inches lower, but with a much tighter group. Shooting the revolver single action of course, with it's super light trigger pull.

Pocket guns are not known for their long range accuracy.

At 15 yards, I'm at a 5" spread around

Fifteen yards, forty-five feet... makes me go hmmm.

Makes me wonder why someone/something at darn near 50 foot away is a problem. Somebody that far away is no problem, or I'm totally goosed anyway because the BG has a rifle, or I'm running like hell to avoid the situation.

Half that - seven yards, thats where the BG's get to be a problem. Thats where ya gotta hit hard n fast, every time.

I practice at 25 and 50 meters several times a year.

Man size target at 50m with my MK9 is no problem.

I can hit an 8in paper plate all day at 25m with it.

Very accurate little gun.

I have yet to try it at 100m. Maybe next time.

are you guys talking about this excellent long range marksmanship ability as related to defensive type shooting or bullseye target shooting? Just curious.

Rested, slow fire, usually from a sandbag.

Off hand, I can hit the 25m target 50% of the time.

I haven't tried off hand at 50m.

Thanks for the clarification, Jim. Whenever I read reports of folks consistantly shooting 1 to 2" groups with a defensive type handgun at a any distance beyond 7 to 10 yards, it tends to lower my self esteem. I do occassionally shoot from a rest, but only to prove (as best I am able) the quality of the gun. But, that's all "gun", and very little the combination of the gun and shooter.

The best of shooters working with a poorly designed or poorly constructed firearm will shoot like crap, and the worst of shooters with the most perfect of firearms will shoot like crap....hopefully we will all fall somewhere in between all the time.

I shot my MK9 and K9 today at 25/50/100m. Only 100m was rested on a sandbag.

25/50m were what I expected, hard...

100m was insanely hard!

1 for 7 both guns!
