  • What do the ladies carry?

My wife loves my passion for guns and that my 3 boys are growing up around them. There is just one problem. They scare the crap out of her, and I really want her to carry. She is a pharmaceutical sales person, very pretty, and travels via car daily to some pretty remote areas.

I would like to hear what your ladies are carrying and any suggestions that might be a good start. I am leaning toward a lightweight revolver that she can keep at the bottom of her purse or even a 22 to get her used to just having it. Eventually, I would love to have her put a CM9 in the purse, but we need to get there over time.

She won't even shoot a 22 at this time, so you know it is a pretty serious fear. A guy was flipping her off and cussing her from his truck today, and she opened the window for having a gun. She probably cut him off, so he may have had the right to be pissed. Either way, we need to get her on board asap.

IMO ur fighting a losing cause with her. buy her some good mace or something in that order. I woul.dnot try to force a gun on a woman who fears it.

My wife has been through an NRA CLASS and has shot with me many times but for the past few years she doesn'tcarry, has no intentions of doing so, and I am not gonna force her to do something that evedently she is uncomforatable about doing. Just sayin. Not a thing wrong with your wife IMO, probalby 90% of all women feel the way she feels. She's on board, I think ur not in her case..

Some of my friends are guiding their wives towards the S&W 642 hammerless (Or it's Taurus equivalent), in 38 Special. Pretty good gun with little kick and big enough to get the job done. If she is scared of guns, I'd get her out to the range with a .22 and make up some shooting games, that would make it fun. Tell her you'll make her a find dinner and do the dishes or something if she can out shoot you on a target or something along those lines. If you can get her past her fear, that's half the battle. If the .38 proves to much for her to handle. I'd try see if she'd go with a .22 magnum, some of which has pretty good ballistics for a rim fire load. Some of the newer pistols designed for women in pretty colors might appeal to her better than the standard black/blue or stainless steel.
I'm no expert, I was never able to get my ex wife into shooting much, but did get her to shoot a few times, but never able to convince her to keep a gun handy to protect herself and the house, and certainly never convinced her to carry one.

Sounds like a bad situation for having a gun with her....he flipped her off because she may of cut him off? Would she of pulled it if he waved his fist?....hmmm

Fox pepper spray http://foxlabs.com/products.shtml and a (no relationship) Fox 40 plastic whistle http://www.fox40world.com/index.cfm?...atalog&id=4130. Putting a gun into the bottom of a purse is exactly what NOT to do. The pepper spray will clip to just about anything and is non lethal and the whistles should be on everyones keychain including kids.
Then get her to the range with a .22 for fun.

My wife has the Kimber pepper spray: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/344...-10-pct-oc-red
I also got one for my Daughter in law and for my own Daughters Mother in law. Iam not as much a fan of the spray cans as a BG in can range is too close. Also the spray can catch the user in their own OC cloud. I have trained the Laidies I have bought these for that the most important rule is "you don't talk about fight club...". You dont talk about with the co-workers and you never tell a menicing BG "I've got pepper spray" as the BG may just steel himself up to take a blast of it and continue the attack. Once you have shot the first blast, MOVE. If a second blast is needed, take careful aim, fire and haul-ur-hiney someplace safe to call the cops. Wait for them in said safe spot. If the cops are quick they will not have a hard time finding the BG, just tell them to "follow your nose..."
As far as a firearm, well, my wife likes her 11-87 shotgun, her 21A Beretta .22 and my 1911's. None of those are good carry guns for her. I would most likely get her a P380, or the Ruger LCP with a CT laser. She likes the ergo and weight of the Ruger, I like the sights on a P380, but it would be her choice. Next I would then get her a Loopers Flashbang bra holster. http://www.flashbangholster.com/Flas...r/Welcome.html

My Wife has enough Hooters to hideout a .44mag...

Warning, if your wife turns out to like shooting it's-a-gonna-cost-ya! Ask the man that knows.
            Good luck.

I think that kimber spray is the most powerful of all. Only two shots per unit but again, not something u practice with and ur advice is excellent.

Yeah, the Kimber OC is slightly stronger than Grizzly spray. I like that it ballistically deployed and is good for years. No fall off of the spray power ever. 13ft average range, good accuracy and dependable for years. The women I have passed them out to love them.

...And Jacko if you imagin the show is good, nawww its really better.

I don't know what the other ladies carry but my wife of 33 years carries a 3" S&W M-66 with her name engraved on the side. Sure, it might be a little old fashoned and a bit heavy but she shoots it very well. It was the reason my eldest daughter carries a S&W M-10 snub but hers has an old set of Jay Scott feaux mother of pearl grips (because she wants it to be pretty). My youngest daughter is not yet 21 but she has a M-10 snub waiting for her also.

Revolvers are a good choice for the "occasional" shooter.

u have raised and taught them very well. Personally a wheel gun is probalby the best gun for a woman, . easy to load, easy to unload, no jams to screw up their minds. lots of good defense rounds availalbe even some good shot rounds. A wise choice IMO for any women is a wheel gun..

I guess I better turn in my "man card" cause I like revolvers too. The SP101, 638 and CW9 rotate for my carry depending on what kind of mood I'm in.

When my wife carries, it's the Ruger SP-101 3" SS Revolver, loaded with either Federal NYCLAD 125 gr JHP or Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135 gr +P JHP, both providing less felt recoil for her. She, to this day, will NOT carry a semi-auto, hates worrying about having to deal with the possibility of jams. She also hates racking slides.

Take it from someone who knows......If she does start to show a interest in learning to shoot, start off small and slowly work her up to the bigger calibers. I was put off rifles for many years because I was handed one to big for me to handle.

If a gun is going to be carried in a purse. I would get one made for that purpose. Cabela's carries some nice ones. A gun just floating around in the bottom of a purse...especially if it's a jumbled mess like mine...will just get lost or worse case end up with a accidental discharge.

But, honestly..if she's afraid to shoot at this time. She shouldn't be carrying one around.

Oh...and I carry a PM9 with the crimson laser sight.

Oh, yea, what ever you (read your wife or daughter) decide on......do not get an Airweight snubby for the first gun unless they like them. There is some serious palm/hand thumpin with hot rounds.
