OK...I did the unthinkable! I bought her a gun. She didn't even see or handle it.

    Here is the good news!

It is a Walther P22. Nope...that's not the good news. I can assure you that I was not trying to add it to my collection at all. When I got it home, she picked it up, racked the slide, dropped the mag, and pulled down the slide release. She looked at me and said, "I like it! I think I just wanted to be able to operate it." She then asked when we can go shoot. Women...

I have had her try to rack 4 Kahrs (Ha!), a Kel-tec, M&Ps and a BG380. This is the first she could do without pain and with authority. I probably should have just picked up an old revolver, but if I have to losea few $ on the Walther, it will be worth her interest in shooting!

I am finding that the P22 might have more needed prep than any Kahr and some reliability issues, so I want to make sure I prep before first range visit and get the right ammo. Did I mention that it is a cool looking gun with a digital pattern on the plastic parts. THAT might be why she likes it.

Thanks for all the input...I am hoping to be working her up the range of ammo over the next month. Then we will have to get her to CCW class and might be gun shopping together. I might be ahead of myself and her, but it is a major breakthrough.
    Kahr P380, Custom CM9 x2, & PM45 or S&W M&P9c x2 (my CC guns)

Kocko, ain't it weird guys like paractical gifts... a drill, jack stands for the truck, a new mower, etc... but you get a woman a vac or tires for her vehicle, a drout comes along.

I am indeed a very luck man, as my wonderful wife of over 39 years is very comfortable around guns. She is very seldom not in reach of her S&W 642. She does not leave the house without it. She and I were both raised in the hills of Eastern Tennessee and shooting was just part of daily life. When we got our carry permits I took her the the gun store and she already knew that her preference was a small revolver, no safety to remember to take off, no slide to rack in case of a misfire. She can out shoot me with the damn thing as she has really mastered the long double action trigger.

One very important thing a woman or for that matter anyone that intents to carry a weapon they must be willing to spend the time necessary to train with the weapon to be come proficient with it. We normally go to the range weekly and sometimes more often. When we are out together I am 100% confident she always has my back.

I've got one and like it quite a bit. Use it for sight alignment/shooting short barreled practice.

All I ever did with mine is just clean it for the initial shoot. Break it in with CCI mini mags. The P22 likes them. After a few 100 rounds or so, buy a few 50 round boxes of other brands (cheaper) to see what it will feed/function with. Mine likes the Remington Golden Bullet in the bulk packs now.

Make sure you take the "kit" with you to the range to have here see which of the back straps she likes the best. Also, you may have to change out the front sight for your vertical adjustment.

I do carry a CW45 in a holster, behind the back, and purse carry. Eventually I will have a SR40c.

What my wife carries depends on how she is dressed. When possable it's a S&W 6906, otherwise a P3AT. She likes my CW40 but it's a little snappy for her. She is eyeing the CW9 though.

See, this is why we need a wide variety of handguns, holsters and purses.

                  Looks like a sweet pistol!
                  It's a 22 lr right?
My favorite 22 lr round has been CCI Stingers.
Might want to give them some consideration.
They were a devastating varmint round for me in my Ruger 10/22.

Haven...That is very opportunistic of you. What was the progression of the guns as you worked up to the PM9? Unfortunately, there are few small caliber guns on my wish list, but maybe I can make this an excuse to buy a few. I would love for her to carry a PM/CM9 one day!

I found this to be a nice gun to handle....easy to rack, load, shoot and clean(Although, not as easy to clean as the Kahrs.)

So...then straight to the PM9? The spring on the P22 is stupid! I managed to get it down now by laying it on the grip and moving the slide a bit. Still a pain in the bawanna.

I've shot a variety of different caliber handguns since I was a kid. But, none ever felt right or fit my small hand. Until I held a Kahr. (I swear I heard angels sing) I just had to purchase it!

I would go with a .380 next if she's comfortable with the P22.
I also like my K40. I don't carry it as my CCW as often because it's a little to bulky.

I heard those same angels, and I don't have small hands. The trigger and the simplicity was the draw for me. I have a P380 that might be a little snappy compared to the P22, but it seems a logical next step. The P380 would be easily concealed. Thanks!
