  • Good Friend Got Into A Gun Fight

    http://www.12newsnow.com/story/19253...not-successful

    Just talked to him.

    He prepared.
    He trained.
    He acted prudently.
    He's alive.
Perp is wounded and in jail.

    Cliffs:
Truck in the next parking space
Perp jumps out, throws down on him with a shotgun
Friend is seated with one foot inside his Jeep Cherokee
Keeps talking to perp and pushing shotgun barrel sideways
    Says he's getting his wallet.
Pulls his Taurus 709 Slim from kidney carry
    Fires once
Perps falls backwards, drops shotgun, jumps up and runs

K9 finds the perp shot through the hip and hiding.

    Friend goes home alive.

    WOW!
Kudos to you friend for being prepared and taking this "anchor of society" off the street.

    I love a happy ending.

That notch in the rail is supposed to be there

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Man why he didn't unload the whole mag in that FH I'll never know? If someone has a shotgun pointed at my head and I get a chance to shoot first, I'm putting all 8 into him. Your buddy is lucky the BG's shotgun probably wasn't loaded, that's all I can say. I'm thinking if it was he'd been shot too and probably gottin the worst of it, even if he did get a chance to shoot multiple times.

Who the hell holds up somebody in a parking lot with a shotgun? Some dumb@$$, I guess.

              stolen truck
Walgreens parking lot late at night

He didn't unload because as soon as he shot, the perp fell/ran backwards out of sight behind the tailgate of the truck.

My friend carefully pursued him, but the guy had dropped the shotgun, rolled and started running.

He chose not to try to shoot him in the back as he was running away.

              Attack stopped
              Threat left

              I support his decision.

I have seen robberies with AK-47's. Really it is more common than the average citizen realizes.

                Glad the good guy won.

Well, that's probably the dumbest thing I've heard in awhile....certainly from a legal perspective. Stk sort that I am, if he's going down anything beyond a double tap is just stupid and asking for trouble.

To OP....congrats to your friend. Got a good head on his shoulders he does.

Oh, I wasn't calling your friend a *******, I meant the perp who was holding up your friend. And good for him (your friend) for not unloading and/or shooting the unarmed and fleeing dirtbag in the back. Would have made things a little hairier from a legal standpoint, perhaps. He showed remarkable control under pressure. Really this is a textbook case of defensive gun use.

That's the correct way to do it.....stop the threat, and he did.

However, if the perp's death is a byproduct of stopping the threat, then that is just too bad.

Once the perp takes to flight and runs away shooting him/her in the back is an almost guarantee of incarceration and a ruinous civil suit. The OP's friend did it exactly right.

From what I've read here and the attached, he did it by the book. My hat's off to him. Sounds very level headed in dealing with the actual situation as it went down, did what he had to do and stopped when the threat departed. I hope everyone takes this one to heart. No Rambo stuff, just do your job and go home.
