Also that his rich backers have gotten a lot richer from beneficial state contracts for years. And then there was his dictatorial attempt to require every young Texas girl to get a uterine cancer preventative vaccine. His primary "quality" is being an opportunist who calls himself a republican. Yeah, he's a gun guy, but the Texas State Rifle Association was not very happy with his failure to push for a state open carry law - he was silent on it.

The main reason he kept on getting reelected is the fact that his democrat opponents were worse crooks & skunks than he is and their state democrat party is a bunch of whinyass rats not fit to govern a dog pound.

I haven't voted for him in this century and never will.

But I will say he is light years more preferable as president than any democrat who is in the current crop of their scumbag "leadership", and that includes the Hillbeast. And he would've been 100% better than that worthless "community organizer" infesting the White House right now.

The indictment? It is a stupid ploy by the dirty democrats who defended their drunken alcoholic Travis County DA who should've been fired. Perry's veto of her office's funding was a legal move on his part, but the Austin democrats are trying to parse the "intent" part of the law. Not only are they making themselves look like vindictive little turds (which they are), but they are giving him a boost in his popularity.

Frankly, it has been a huge entertainment for me - and I say that as a good friend of Rick Perry's A&M roommate & Air Force pilot school classmate, plus my wife was a Taylor High School classmate of the drunken Travis County DA in question. This has filled an empty void for me ever since I cancelled our subscription (after 45 years) to the Austin American Statesman newspaper - the local rag - and no longer get to read the Sunday funnies. lol

That says it all right there. I'll vote for Jesus when he returns to us. Until then its all about damage control.

I said I agree with his stance on most things. I also agree with everyone here that he would be better than what we currently have. I do not know the man personally and I am not a Texas resident. What I can only do is make a judgement on what I see.
What I see is his performance on TV, both in the debates and now on the indictments. What I feel is that he is very well scripted but cannot go off script and into detail about any subject because he does not have the capacity/desire to understand the details in depth. Some will say that neither does Obama, but this issue is strictly about Perry, not Obama.
Maybe a box of rocks was a little strong but it best illustrated my opinion. He is far from the brightest bulb in the fixture. What my original intent was it to hope the Republican party can come up with a viable candidate with intelligence and personality and common sense and experience. Not shoot themselves in the foot by nominating someone just because he able to regurgitate all the things the far right says.

My thoughts exactly, but of course, ANYBODY would be better than what we have. I just don't want the see the Republicans nominate someone who can't think on his feet and, from the debates, Perry obviously can't. I have the feeling that his 'ideas' are carefully scripted by someone else, and when pushed, he can't defend them. The charge that Bush was stupid faded somewhat when the transcripts from Princeton proved that he had a higher GPA than Gore. I don't think that option is available to Perry.

BTW, being a former Naval Aviator, I don't give that much credit for being an AF pilot.

Being a Navy man myself I have to agree that AF pilots don't compare to Navy Pilots, however it would be tough to land a C130 on the flight deck. As far as how one performs before television cameras, were not voting for an Oscar nominee, were voting for a president. Obama was a Harvard Law School graduate who has yet to release his transcripts. A constitutional scholar who doesn't believe in the 2nd Amendment. Perry isn't my first choice, but he's a damn sight better than anything that the democrats have to offer.

Actually, back when they were evaluating it for a COD [Carrier on board delivery] aircraft, a C-130 made several traps [Maybe the wrong word since it had no hook] and launches from a carrier. Of course, it was an all Navy crew.

Today, if a candidate can't perform on television, he will never be elected and that's my fear with Perry. It makes no difference how well he might handle the job, if he never gets the chance. I don't think the Country can survive another Obama. The Republicans must provide a candidate that can be elected by the uninformed [m]asses.

You'll get no argument from me about the shortcomings of Obama or any other Democrat that's currently in the picture.

That, stated in better logic, is why I said I hoped he would not the the Republican nominee.

I am a Texas resident and I have met with Perry on two different occasions. I will admit that my impression of Governor Perry is best summed up in two (for some unflattering) words, "Consummate politician". It kind of oozes out his pores when your around him. Next let me say the second amendment has no truer friend in the race than Perry. Someone may turn up his equal, but no one will beat him as a supporter on 2A. That really seems to come from his heart and soul, if you are a one issue (2A) voter, Ricks going to be your guy. His faults lie down other paths and we Texans have witness a few of Perry's blunders over the years. His call for mandatory immunizations for all middle school aged girls for STDs comes quickest to mind...

...Way to stomp parental toes there Rick!

With that said, the charges against him are ridiculous at best. Local TV stations have been playing demi sound bites from across the state. Silly, shrill and nonsensical would be how I describe them. My favorite was the state demi chair who pointed as "proof" the fact that two other state officials had been stopped for DWI without a peep from the Gov's office. He then attacked Gov Perry's actions related to the Travis county DA as "character assassination". It seems to me that the drunken DA's screaming, kicking and cussing arrest video dose the assassination all by itself. The other two officials have nothing like that showing up on YouTube and they eventually accepted responsibility for their actions.

Is it okay if I'm already bored to death of this circus? Out with the Elephants and Jackasses, time to bring on the clowns! Oh wait, there already here...

BTW, this week is the 60th anniversary of the C-130 programs first flight, so photos of the carrier opps on the old "Forest fire" (CV59) abound. Have a good one!

I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                  "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
                  "more stuff than you are"

sorry Navy but the best fighter jocks are going to come from the AF. They spend more time flying then practicing take offs and landings. The AF also has twice as many pilots than the Navy so just on numbers alone the probability of finding the best is twice as likely in the AF. Cannot argue with the facts.

I can't argue with you Wright Brothers supporters, I always wanted to be a Marine myself. Although I had a strong desire to do a carrier take off for a long time. Not land though. And that desire has pretty much diminished with time.

Carrier take-off and landing. Really would have liked to have done that. But, back in the day, I had no real interest in being a pilot so I chose a different route. Looking back though, REO might have been as interesting as what I chose.

Speaking of pilots, my boss at one duty station was an A7 pilot. One of my peers was a helicopter pilot. The boss often said:
"Helicopter pilots are crazy. They will fly anything, including the box it came in."

The fact is that the Naval Aviators are universally acknowledged as the best. I agree - you can't argue with that.
