  • Mesquite looks mighty fine too. Just throwin that out there.
Attitude: it takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile...and 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

The olive branch is considered a symbol of peace, and good will. Last time I checked, it's still a switch.

Absolutely correct. Thanks for reminding me.

I been meaning to try and get some of that stabilized to see how it acts.

Several pieces I got need to be stabilized. I think I just need a bigger piggy bank.

Funny, I have the opposite problem. I need bigger pennies to fill my average-sized piggy bank with

The ones in the first big picture? Have to be, none of the others are remotely pink but I didn't see pink in those either............

Anyhow, that is Leopard Wood. It's pretty nice hard stuff, kind of weird in that it changes appearance. It's no good checkered, the pattern gets completely lost. As you file them to shape they change looks as the little spots are somehow random through the wood.

              • Yes, in the first big picture on the previous page. Well, it is either my eyes or my monitor that is seeing kinda redish pink! OK, maybe a brownish pink? Looks like you could never have an exact matched pair. Kinda like a leopard

Inquired about the leopard wood grips and here they are. Some minor fitting to get them over the Wilson "clip on" mag well.

                    • Did you end up polishing those or did you apply something. They look real good shined up.

If you have to kill me if you tell me, I don't need to know that bad.

                      • Don't have to kill you (this time )

I applied two coats of lacquer after sanding them down some more with 400 grit wet dry paper. Then very lightly buffed them with a clean loose cotton buffing wheel. The lacquer brought out the grain better than oil (experimented on the inside of the grips). For some reason, they are not slick and stick real good to the hand.

May put in the stainless screws to see how they look.

                        I like them too

BTW - found a source for some "pink ivory" wood. This wood is from South Africa. Just in case you need some for pink grips for that special person.

Well I'm running pretty low on "Good" wood. The place I normally go to didn't have much to look at. Used to have everything you could imagine.
The stablilized place I got some blanks from, the guy isn't responding to me. He mostly does stuff that people send him and I want to send some too but also want some that he already has on hand.

Might have to score some of that Pink Ivory. Never whittled it before. Might be a nice option for that special someone.
I noticed the non slipperynes of them Leopard Woods too. The lacquer really did bring them to life.

Thank you for not having to kill me THIS TIME.

Nice! I had a Leopard wood sneaky pete back in the day. Lot folks admired that stick; one finally made me an offer I liked and it left the fold. I'd like to think it's still in play somewhere. Thanks for sharing Bawanna's fine work on your good looking pistol (Para?).

                            • Mr. B - the pink ivory I found on line so I really don't know what it looks like or even how it works with hand tools. Might be going to a gun show tomorrow and if the wood guy is there, I'll see if he has any of this. I think that they use this wood for turning more than anything else.

Greg - yes, it is a Para GI Expert. Have not had any problems with it since I got it last year. Over 1,000 rounds through it so far. Oh, and thanks for the nice comment on both the pistol and Bawanna's good work. Also good to see you as a moderator to help out Bawanna. Lord knows he needs the help

Not sure if it is the mag well or not, but I seem to be getting more accurate with the 1911 after putting it on.

                              • WOW. Those are magnificent. What kind of wood is that. It's got a beautiful grain to it. Wish my P9 could use a pair of those grips.
