  • Just be careful standing up them walls boys. One slip can put an abrupt end to your tap dancing career. Course you don't have to climb ladders any more either, always hated ladders, the taller they were, the more I hated em. It is right handy for bench work though. Don't have to get up to get across the room for a tool or anything else.

I'm sure this was legal ebony, well I'm not sure but I hope so. If they want to come try and seize it, all I can say is bring it on.

Gotta take off my whittling hat and put on my shipping hat. Guess they got past quality control.

    Thank you.

            • Bawanna, that's some very impressive work! I once tried to whittle the end of a stick into a point - sliced myself on the first cut. Decided it was probably best for me to stay far away from woodworking. Cut myself again the first time I attached my bayonet to my M16. Decided it was best for me to stay far away from knives, too. So far I'm doing OK with nail clippers, though.

                        • Bawanna is a good guy! You already knew it.

Here is the finished product. They look amazing. Here is a little background for the forum on this gift...

My step-dad turns 65 in a couple weeks. He lives in southwestern WI and is an avid big game hunter and fisherman. He doesn't own a handgun, but WI just passed a new concealed carry law that allows veterans to apply without the need for class training. He has applied and received his permit. He has 2 Purple Hearts from Vietnam and has an amazing love of his country. There have only been two times that I have been able to give him enough beer to tell me about the combat, but he is very proud of his time in the Army.

He and my mother got together about 25 years ago after my father died. My step-father quit his job at a local manufacturing company and started several small businesses that have done extremely well. He is one of the most humble and down-to-earth people you will ever meet, and has a lot of "man toys".

I purchased this used SW1911sc about 6 weeks ago with the intention of giving it to him for his first gun, to carry in his truck, and to shoot on his land. I reached out to Bawanna not knowing what his connection to gun grips was, and Bawanna told me he made grips. He also offered to make some custom grips for my step-dad.

The gun would have been a cool gift by itself, but the grips make it an amazingly personal gift. The grips make the gun! In my mom's words, "this will be the most thoughtful gift he has ever gotten."

THANK YOU, Bawanna, you are a VERY good man!

You're a good man giving that to him.

                              • There's tears in my eyes. I had reservations in hindsight about the dark ebony on a blued gun being too blah.
Those look absolutely fantastic and I don't say that cause I whittled them, I think they look fabulous, very tasteful and it looks like the thumb safety clears just right.

                                Very nice.

An to add another chapter to the story, isthelaw inquired as to fees etc and I of course hit him pretty hard with my normal whatever you want estimate.
Next thing I know I receive a message to expect some 7.62x38 ammo for my Nagant pistol that I had never even seen a cartridge for. I plan to post a thread on that by itself, weird stuff. Surprise, surprise a package shows up with 10 (ten) 14rd boxes of very nice surplus 7.62x38. Apparently another good friend here conspired to come up with that idea. Thanks whoever you are.
Next thing I know there's a message that some blanks of Coco Bolo are heading my way from the east coast.

Sometimes "Stuff" is better than cash, me and money never stay together very long but me and stuff seem to cling to each other in perfect harmony.

I'm right proud to whittle them for your step dad and hope he's completely jazzed when he opens that package up. Love to see a picture of that kodak moment. Please thank him from all of us for his service and invite him to join us if he feels inclined. Beers all on Jocko.
