Hoppe's 9 box says don't leave it on nickel plated surfaces, so don't know if that's a "film" or if soaking the barrel might have removed some nickel plate.

Did you contact them by email? You said they deleted your post, which makes it sound like you posted to an online forum. Does Kahr have an official online forum?Originally posted by marshal kane View PostDid a dumb thing. Was cleaning the barrel on my P9 and got the brilliant (I'm SO GIFTED like that) idea of just soaking the barrel in my jar of Hoppe's #9 rather than swabbing it out. NOT A GOOD IDEA. I gave it a long soak and when I got it out of the Hoppe's the barrel had a gray tint from half the chamber to the crown. The rear portion of the chamber is still silver, the rest is now a light gray tint. Tried Brake Kleen, alcohol, Break Free, Rem Oil, etc. but none of those would restore the finish so I just knew Kahr would help me out. My question to them was "What can I do to restore the original finish to my barrel?" A simple "Nothing!" would have sufficed but they chose to hit "delete" after reading my post. I realize my post was NOT earth-shaking nor does it affect the functionality of my gun but I thought I would give it a try to see if they would try to help. Well, like the first "ding" in a new car, you get over it with time and move on. I don't think I even notice the difference anymore. I'm only bringing this up since you were considerate enough to ask. Thanks
Did you try calling them?

Now there's a very good answer to what might have happened. Brush Hoppe's on then wipe off = OK. Soak in Hoppe's = NO, NOOriginally posted by SlowBurn View PostHoppe's 9 box says don't leave it on nickel plated surfaces, so don't know if that's a "film" or if soaking the barrel might have removed some nickel plate.Life member - NRA

Yes I emailed them from their website address but since I received no response, I did not call them being that other than damage to the cosmetics, no adverse effect on the gun's performance. It's my fault so I'm going to just live with it. Thanks for your concern.Originally posted by cobrasjp View PostDid you contact them by email? Why is it that no one bothers to read the directions until after the fokk up the project? It's one of life's great mysteries.Originally posted by SlowBurn View PostHoppe's 9 box says don't leave it on nickel plated surfaces, so don't know if that's a "film" or if soaking the barrel might have removed some nickel plate.

My CM9 also broke a follower early on. Easy fix. I ground/polished/buffed 1/15 to 1/20 of an inch (using a micrometer) off of the bottom of the feed ramp, where it was almost hitting, and the same place the follower had an impact mark and crack.
Of the three problems with my CM9, that was the easiest and quickest to fix.All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

I have seen the Hoppes problem before. Not sure there is any way to remove the stain from the nickel plating on the barrel of a Kahr. Perhaps the denture cleaner will work. First time I ever heard that one. Unfortunately, I have an old Marbles hunting knife with that exact problem on the blade. Was done by a PO. Please let us know if the denture stuff works. If you want to resolve the problem, consider a new barrel? It is always good to have a spare barrel anyway. ;-)
