My 638 at 10:30 is my favorite carry pistol! Though I have a couple of IWB holsters for it, I always grab the Stays-Put Ultra Pocket Holster. It is perfectly forget-it's-there comfortable and it stays put behind a good belt. I slide it in and slide it out without fooling with a clip. And what I really love is how easy it is to draw my gun when seated. Being a lefty, it even works for me when I am belted into my driver's seat. I put the gun riding low with the cylinder hiding behind my left front belt loop, with a reverse cant that lays the grip down just above my belt, makes it easier to draw and moves the muzzle over so it doesn't jam against my thigh when I am seated. Here is a pic of my Duracoated, ported baby with the lightened trigger.

    Very interesting...

That's a good looking gun, jfootin and I bet it's fun to shoot with it being ported.

Revolvers are so "old school"! I like flat autos, though I did add a couple of Blocks to our armory.

If you are going to carry that high with a belly band you might want to try the flashbang holster. Their website is http://flashbangholsters.publishpath.com/

M .... if you plan to carry the lightweight .357, but intend to shoot mostly .38 spl rounds, I would strongly recommend that you load your own range fodder and load in .357 brass. You can load the .357 brass down to very comfortable shooting load levels with Unique, or preferably TrailBoss. You well know that you will get those nasty crud rings in your cylinders if you shoot too many short brass rounds.

I don't blame you for upping the ante to a nice .357 revolver (my favorite daily carry), but getting rid of a solid steel Model 36 in exchange for a lightweight .357 (with intentions to shoot .38 spl rounds) is akin to blasphemy. Load up a big old batch of 158 gr SWC's in .357 brass with a fairly light "start load" charge and you'll get the most bang for the buck.

Yeah, that and the shape of the gun produces a rolling motion in the hand that is not unpleasant. The Hogue Bantam one piece rubber grip helps, too, and makes for very sure handling. What really does it for me, though, is the superb trigger job that has reduced the DA pull to 4.25 lb! I love that gun!

I thought it would be hard to beat my little CM9 for thinness and ease of carry. But after I got my 638, I got schooled! The guns are about the same length and height. But for carrying there is a big difference. The difference is that the CM9 (and any semi-auto) has that almost 1" tall, almost 1" wide slide that goes all the way from the muzzle to way back behind the trigger. The frame of the 638 is just 1/2" wide and the barrel is narrower than that. That narrow frame curves downward toward the grip starting just behind the cylinder. The only wide spot is the cylinder. The grip isn't any thicker than the CM9.

Those differences in shape make a tremendous difference when carrying AIWB. That fat slide on the CM9 prints below the waist and above it, and makes for some discomfort. (Melissa, I can imagine how unsatisfactory the G26 is there.) The little thin barrel and frame on the 638 disappear below the waist and there is nothing to protrude like the back of the CM9 slide does above it. The cylinder is really pretty small and rounded, so it is not noticeable or uncomfortable. In fact, it helps lock the pocket holster in place behind my belt. The gun is an absolute dream to carry AIWB!

Sorry guys! I said it was Model 36, but it is really a Model 37 airweight. With the wooden grips on it, it hurt to shoot .38 through it because the backstrap was not covered. I had some Hogue grips for it, but they did not conceal as well as the wood.

If it HAD been a 36, I might have had the hammer bobbed and kept it.

                        o.k. ..... all is forgiven.

I still recommend not shooting spls in the new .357 chambers though.

I feel better too. A 36 going away would have been a sad thing.

I was talked into shooting a .357 in this gun and it hurt. :7:

It was a lot worse than the S&W 500.

                              Hey Melissa,
I have a Ruger LCR 357 and I often carry it in a flash bang holster. It's more comfortable than you would think. And if I'm not carrying it there it's most commonly in my coat pocket during the winter (it gives me easy access during a walk).
